NY Post: Is Dan Rather a Moron or a Just Democratic Shill?

The New York Post takes CBS and Dan Rather to task for their latest Kerry ad disguised as a news report and asks a very good question: Is Dan Rather a Moron or just a Democratic shill?

Two More Reasons Not To Vote For Kerry

Terry McAuliffe Wants You To Help Spin The Post Debate Media Blitz

...and we should all take his advice. The DNC sent out the following email to Democrats to help shape the post debate conversation:

Tonight, don't let George Bush's henchmen steal another victory. We need your online help immediately after the debate, so save this email, print it out, and have it ready with you as you watch the first Presidential debate tonight. 1. We all know what happened in 2000. Al Gore won the first debate on the issues, but Republicans stole the post-debate spin. We are not going to let that happen again, and you will play a big role.

Immediately after the debate, we need you to do three things: vote in online polls, write a letter to the editor, and call in to talk radio programs. Your 10 minutes of activism following the debate can make the difference.

National and local news organizations will be conducting online polls during and after the debate asking for readers' opinions. Look for online polls at these national news websites, and make sure to vote in every one of them:

ABC News:

CBS News:

Fox News:

USA Today:

And be sure to check the websites of your local newspapers and TV stations for online polls. It is crucial that you do this in the minutes immediately following the debate.

Immediately after the debate, go online and write a letter to the editor of your local paper. If you feel John Kerry commanded the debate and had a clear plan for fixing the mess in Iraq, put it in your letter. If you feel George Bush dodged tough questions on Iraq and didn't level with voters, put it in your letter.

With just a few clicks, you can write your letter at our online media center:

Do you listen to national or local call-in shows on the radio? How about on TV? Call them and let them know what you thought of John Kerry's plan to keep America secure and George Bush's continuing refusal to admit the truth about his record. Here are some national shows to get you started.

All times are Eastern.) Air America (all day): 646-274-2346 Alan Colmes (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.): 212-301-5900 Ed Shultz (3 p.m. to 6 p.m.): 701-232-1525 Bev Smith (7 p.m. to 10 p.m.): 412-325-4197 Doug Stephen (5 a.m. 10 a.m.): 1-800-510-8255

Find shows in your area on our media website:

Your actions immediately after the debate tonight can help John Kerry win on November 2. Make your voice heard!

Don't forget to visit our 2004 Debate Center before, during, and after the debate for important information, including questions Bush must answer, a Bush/Kerry contrast on keeping America safe, and Bush Debate Bingo, a game you can play with friends during the debate.

And after the debate, check your email for a very special message.

Thank you,

Terry McAuliffe

PS: Make sure to forward this email to at least 10 other people who will be watching the debate. Also, give printed out copies to your friends, family members, coworkers and neighbors and get them involved.

The media will absolutely spin the outcome of the debate to favor Kerry. The only way they won't attempt to help Kerry is if his performance is so obviosly poor that they can't hide the truth.

Be sure to take the advice of DNC chair Terry McAuliffe and vote in all of the online polls.

Gleen Reynolds has the same prediction.

Even More Voter Fraud

(Via Powerline) Michele Malkin has a round up of voter fraud stories from Tennessee, Ohio, Michigan, West Virginia and Wisconsin. The good news is the New Voter Project (first reported on A Time For Choosing here) group responsible for the voter fraud in Wisconsin is now facing a criminla investigation.

The Outsourcing Hoax

For anyone who believes or knows someone who believes that the "outsourcing" of jobs is a crises for American workers, the GAO has now released hard numbers on the subject. Guess what? There is no crises, and in fact the number of jobs sent overseas has been on the decline. Another article to send to people who have drunk the Democratic Kool-aid. From the New York Times.

Even More Democratic Voter Fraud

To say that Democratic voter fraud appears to be rampant in this election is an understatement. Read previous posts here and here. It is now so rampant that a website has been created with the sole purpose of documenting stories of fraud across the country. Instapundit has a link to yet another story, this time from Cleveland.

Republican candidates will have to overcome not only their opponents, but also a hostile press and widespread voter fraud.

The Despicable Democrats

The earlier post, Democrats Hit Bottom, Dig, linked to a story on Powerline regarding the new despicable tactic by the Democrats of spreading the rumor of a draft to scare voters into voting for Kerry. LittleGreenFootballs has linked to a story from last night’s CBS News that treated the discredited draft rumor as a legitimate news story.

The Democrats must believe the lie has some traction with voters, as it is becoming a widely used tactic. Today’s Denver Post has a story about placards left on college tables by a group called “Students for Kerry”, that warns of an impending draft. This is a copy of the actual placard from the Denver Post:

This is a deplorable tactic. It is demagoguery of the first order, used by the Democrats in an attempt to prop up there struggling presidential candidate. John McIntyre at RealClearPolitics has provided some insight into the conditions that have prompted the Democrats to go to these lengths to try to damage the president. The public should demand that John Kerry condemn the fear mongering over the draft.

There are more examples of the depths to which the Democrats have sunk in this election cycle. In Colorado, a group calling itself Colorado Families First, supporting the election of Stan Matsunaka has released ads showing Republican Marilyn Musgrave stealing the wallet of a soldier in combat and robbing the corpse of an elderly person in their coffin. It really does not get lower than that.

Update: has the CBS transcript and an analysis of the distortions on the CBS report.

Update II:

The CBS News story. Keep in mind the brothers interviewed in this story are the sons of Beverly Cocco, the women identified by CBS as a Republican. CBS fails to tell its viewers that she is the chapter president of an advocacy group called People Against the Draft (PAD) which, in addition to opposing any federal proscription, seeks to establish a “peaceful, rational foreign policy” by bringing all U.S. troops out of Iraq.

Democrats Hit Bottom, Dig

(Via Powerline) This really is the most despicable stunt imaginable. A group supporting John Kerry is sending out this email in an attempt to scare young voters into believing they will be drafted if the President is re-elected:

This is not a real draft, but a real one may happen soon if the current situation doesn't improve.

As it is, our military is stretched almost to the breaking point trying to maintain troop levels in Iraq and around the world. If Pakistan, North Korea or other nations begin to pose new military threats, how would we expect to meet the demand for troops?

Did you know that:

* It would only take two to three days for Congress and the President to authorize a draft and set the Selective Service System's plans in motion?

* Twenty-year-olds would be the first to be inducted?

* Women are very likely to be included in the next draft?

It's up to us to educate ourselves. In the event of a draft, we won't have much time to form an opinion. And with just 34 days left until the election and only a few days left before many state registration deadlines, we need to take a stand now by registering to vote:

Copy this URL into your web browser to get the facts about a potential draft, and to find out what you can do:

Rock The Vote
Alliance For Security

This is disgusting demogoguery of the highest order, and it should come as no surprise considering Teresa Heinz Kerry, John Kerry, and John Edwards have all refered to teh draft in recent weeks. As Hindrocket at Powerline stated, there are very serios issues that need to be discussed in this election, bu the Democrats are incapable of anything more than this type of rhetoric. The faster this election is over and the nation can move past the Democrats demogoguery.

President Bush On O’Reilly

President Bush sat down with Bill O’Reilly for an interview that was unscripted, unrehearsed and completely unedited. Fox News has an article by Bill O’Reilly in which he discusses the respect he has for the President for being willing to sit down and answer questions. Bill O’Reilly did not supply the questions to the Bush Campaign before the interview.

President Bush is outstanding in the interview. He answers the very tough questions directly. He does not pontificate or spin. He was so direct that even O’Reilly was shocked. O’Reilly has a link to a stream of the interview on his site. Hugh Hewitt itt is also playing the audio on his show. If you have the opportunity to listen you will hear a confident, resolute leader who understands the stakes in the war on terror.

More Democratic Voter Fraud

In more evidence that cheating is a primary tactic of the Democratic Party, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating voter fraud in Nashville. The fact of the matter is the Democrats have cheated in every election in the past, are cheating now and will cheat in the future. It is part of the Democratic Party platform, see previous post for another example.

In a recent interview on the Sean Hannity Show, Newt Gingrich predicted that the Democrats will manage to steal at least a million votes in this election. A million votes have the ability to sway many states in a close election. As Hugh Hewitt has stated, If It’s Not Close They Can’t Cheat.

Massive Voter Fraud In Wisconsin

Anyone who has read Hugh Hewitt's book, If It's Not Close They Can't Cheat, will not be surprised by this story out of Wisconsin. The Democrats have laid the groundwork for massive voter fraud. The story is incredible, and is possible because of the voting laws in the state. Republicans should look for this type of activity in other states that allow people to register the day of the election, and vote without showing identification

Oil Hits $50 Per Barrel

The price of oil has reached $50 per barrel on fears that the Nigerian oil fields will be sabotaged by rebels. That along with the repeated threats to American oil platforms in the Gulf of Mexico from hurricanes has combined to push the price to a record high. Opec has stated that there is nothing it can do to control the price of oil, although it does have 1.5 million barrels of extra capacity. Economists have stated that the sustained higher oil prices will have an effect on the global economy.

The Bush Administration has developed and proposed an energy policy that has the potential to reduce American dependence on foreign oil, thus buffering the United States from the rise in oil prices. The Democrats have refused to allow the policy to pass under the pressure from the envionmental lobbies who oppose drilling in the Arctic Wildlife Preserve, thus relegating our national security to second tier status, just below the livelihood of elk.

Our Friends The French

Anyone who still considers France an ally of the same order of Britain or Australia is living in fantasy land. France has stated that it will only take part in an international conference on Iraq if the agenda includes discussion of the withdrawal of troops from Iraq and representatives of the insurgent groups are allowed to participate.

It should come as a surprise to no one that France is advocating surrender in Iraq, but even the most ardent Francophile should be appalled by their demand that the "insurgents" (read terrorists) be represented. Let us be reminded that these are the people responsible for the beheading of people of all nationalities. They are the people responsible for the killing of multi-national troops with car bombs. They are the people responsible for the dismembering, burning and hanging from a bridge four contractors. These are the people France is demanding have representation at an international conference on Iraq.

Steyn: The Kerryness of Kerry

Another must read from Mark Steyn. An excerpt:

If it weren’t for the small matter of the war for civilization, I’d find it hard to resist a Kerry Presidency. Groucho Marx once observed that an audience will laugh at an actress playing an old lady pretending to fall downstairs, but, for a professional comic to laugh, it has to be a real old lady. That’s how I feel about the Kerry campaign. For the professional political analyst, watching Mondale or Dukakis or Howard Dean stuck in the part of the guy who falls downstairs is never very satisfying: they’re average, unexceptional fellows whom circumstances have conspired to transform into walking disasters. But Senator Kerry was made for the role, a vain thin-skinned droning blueblood with an indestructible sense of his own status but none at all of his own ridiculousness. If Karl Rove had labored for a decade to produce a walking parody of the contemporary Democratic Party’s remoteness, condescension, sense of entitlement, public evasiveness and tortured relationship with military matters, he couldn’t have improved on John F Kerry.

Kennedy: Bush makes U.S. More Vulnerable To A Nuclear Attack

Ted Kennedy will state in a speech to be delivered to students at George Washington University today, that the United States is more vulnerable to a "nuclear 9/11" because of the war in Iraq. Ted Kennedy's insane ramblings would be absolutely irrelevant if it weren't for the fact that he is one of John Kerry's closest advisors.

Apparently Ted Kennedy believes that the kind of appeasement advocated by John Kerry would make us less velnerable to a nuclear attack?

Iran Adds Strategic Missile To Arsenal

Iran's Manhattan Project speeds ahead with the announcement by Iran of the successful test fire of a new long range missile. The defense minister stated that his country was now ready to confront all "regional and extra-regional threats". Israel will be the primary target of an Iranian nuclear weapon if that country is able to produce a warhead and a delivery system. The past week has seen an escalation in the tensions between the two countries as Iran continues to insist it's nuclear program is peaceful.

Iran's nuclear ambitions have been discussed previously on A Time for Choosing, here, here, and here.

Iran is attempting to build and/or buy nuclear weapons. John Kerry and John Edwards have made their plan to deal with Iran public. If elected, they have stated that they will allow Iran to keep its nuclear reactors, and see that Iran is sold nuclear fuel. In exchange for these concessions, Iran must promise to use the reactors and the fuel only for peaceful purposes. If that incredibly reckless and naive plan sounds familiar it is because it is almost identical to the deal that the Clinton Administration signed with the communist regime in North Korea. The North Korean began cheating on the deal before Madeleine Albright had finished sharing the last glass of champagne with the country's brutal dictator, Kim Jong Il. North Korea is now a nuclear power. Apparently John Kerry and John Edward's want to build on that success and offer the same deal to Iran. These men cannot be handed the reigns of power at this time in our country's history.

Victor Davis Hanson: A Thousand Tons Of Reason

Many people call Dick Cheney "The Hammer" because the tone of his voice and the seriousness of his speech give such weight to what he says. Cheney may be "The Hammer" when it comes to speaking, but in the world of writing Victor Davis Hanson's words weigh a thousand tons. In a column in National Review, VDH lays out the fall of not only Dan Rather and CBS, but an entire generation of thought. It is a hammer blow, a crushing dissection of the current Democratic Party, the elites that drive its values and the arrogance that is bringing it to its knees. Read this article, email it to your friends and when the pillars of post modern liberalism finally come crashing down, use it to show your shell shocked liberal friends that they were warned.

If a column by VDH is the equivalent of a thousand tons of reason, an article by Mark Steyn is death by a thousand cuts. In his article, Kerry's Looking For American Failure- And He's It, in the Chicago Sun Times, Steyn slowly eviscerates Kerry. A choice excerpt:

What a small, graceless man Kerry is. The nature of adversarial politics in a democratic society makes George W. Bush his opponent. But it was entirely Kerry's choice to expand the field, to put himself on the other side of Allawi and the Iraqi people. Given his frequent boasts that he knows how to reach out to America's allies, it's remarkable how often he feels the need to insult them: Britain, Australia, and now free Iraq. But, because this pampered cipher has floundered for 18 months to find any rationale for his candidacy other than his indestructible belief in his own indispensability, Kerry finds himself a month before the election with no platform to run on other than American defeat. He has decided to co-opt the jihadist death-cult, the Baathist dead-enders, the suicide bombers and other misfits and run as the candidate of American failure. This would be shameful if he weren't so laughably inept at it.

Mark Steyn has emerged as one of the premier writers on the American Political scene this election. He has an extraordinary ability to bring humor and logic to his columns. He has been featured many times on A Time For Choosing.

Another must read column this morning is, Disgraceful, by Bill Kristol in The Weekly Standard. He recaps what has been one of the most disgraceful weeks by a presidential candidate in modern history. John Kerry has taken his party and himself to a new low this week with his statements regarding the war in Iraq and his lack of respect for the Prime Minister of Iraq. His behavior has been discussed in previous posts on, A Time For Choosing, here.

John Kerry Continues To Undermine the War

John Kerry has continues to undermine the war with irresponsible campaign rhetoric. It is apparent that after his 1971 testimony to Congress he has no qualms about using words that undermine a US effort while men are still fighting if he feels he can derive some political benefit from it. Is the man really this irresponsible? Does he not understand the potential effect of his rhetoric? Or it it more insidious than that? Is he actively trying to undermine the alliance of nations in Iraq to damage the President at home? His sister is the head of his overseas campaign. She has been traveling about trying to secure the votes of Americans living abroad, and she is an echo chamber for the irresponsible statements Kerry has made here.

While traveling through Australia, she told an Australian news magazine that Australians were less safe for having supported America in the War in Iraq. Interestingly, this is the same message Al-Queda was trying to send to the Australians when they detonated a bomb outside the Australian Embassy in Jakarta, days before the televised debate between Australia's two candidates for Prime Minister. The elections are to be held on October 9th and the Jakarta bombing was intended to have the same effect as the train bomb in Spain that swung the election to the opposition candidate who quickly withdrew Spanish troops from Iraq. Prime Minister Howard's opposition is a man named Mark Latham. He too has promised to withdraw all of his country's troops if elected. Al-Queda is attempting to ensure that he is elected using the same strategy they did in Spain, but what they probably did not plan on was having an American spokesman for the man who might become President telling the Australians in an interview what they were trying to tell them with a bomb.

Al-Queda is attempting to knock off our allies by using terror to sway elections. Spain was the testing ground, it worked, so now they will try it in every country. They will try it here too. The terrorists are brutal murderers but they are not stupid. They understand that the only way to defeat America is to destroy morale at home. They believe that if they can wreak enough havoc in Iraq it will erode support for the war in America and they will win. They have every reason to believe that. John Kerry winning the nomination must have been a joyous occasion for the terrorists. They are just as aware of his anti-war past and his testimony before Congress in 1971 as most Americans are, and so far he has played right into their hands. The violence in Iraq has caused John Kerry to promise to pull troops out within a year if elected. Just what the terrorists want. If he is elected, they believe, they will have accomplished in America just what they accomplished in Spain and hope to accomplish in Australia. They will have convinced the electorate of a country that to give up on the war and bring their troops home. In short, they will have won. No one wants to say this but it is true: John Kerry's election in and of itself will be considered a victory by the terrorists. They will have picked off Spain, possibly Australia and America. No matter who is elected in Australia, if America withdraws from the war, every country will follow, they have to.

Charles Krauthammer has an excellent article on this very subject in today's Washington Post. With his campaign's comments in Australia and around the world and his own snide remarks directed at the visiting Prime Minister of Iraq yesterday, John Kerry is either actively working to undermine the US led war in Iraq, or he is so, well, stupid and clueless about the effect of his speech, as to not have the mental capacities to be trusted to lead the country during a time of war. I do not think John Kerry is stupid, and he has a history of speaking in a way that undermines the nation, so it seems that he knows what he is doing, but has put his own political ambitions above the good of the country. It is not the first time he has done it, so we should not be surprised.

Media Credability Reaches lowest Point In Three Decades

To be fair this is not all Dan Rather's fault. He simply brought the matter to a head. The media's credability has plummeted because all of the networks and the cable news networks have a bias. All but Fox News are liberal, Fox-News is center right. The reason the networks aren't trustes is because they refuse to admit they are biased. Why don't the papers and the news networks just admit it. Then the reporters can proceed apace with their ridiculous reports, and the public can choose who to watch.

John Kerry: Disgrace

John and Teresa Heinz Kerry are a disgrace to this country. John Kerry took his campaign and the rhetoric of the Democratic Party to a new low today. He dismissed the speech of the Iraqi Prime Minister before the Joint Session of Congress as "just putting the best face on the situation". John Kerry implied that the Prime Minister of Iraq lied in his speech. The Prime Minister of Iraq wakes up everyday knowing their are terrorists seeking to kill him. He is leading a country in the infancy of Democracy, after 30 years of brutal oppression. He came to America to present his government's plan for his country and to thank American's for the sacrifice and their steadfast resolve in the War. John Kerry undercut him and he undercut his government. An earlier post on A Time For Choosing, stated that the reason John Kerry's actions after the Vietnam War are relevant because they were the basis of every action he took during his public career. His statement today is proof that that post was on the mark.

Vice President Cheney said that he was "apalled" by John Kerry's lack of respect for the Prime Minister. Every American should be appaled and John Kerry should be roundly condemned for his statements by members of his own party. He should issue an apology to the Prime Minister and to teh people of Iraq. Let's not forget that Prime Minister Allawi is the Prime Minister of a sovereign country. Apparently Mr. Kerry does not believe that Mr. Allawi deserves the respect of other foreign leaders. The Bush Cheney Campaign also released a statement. John Kerry's statement shows not only a lack of respect for the Prime Minister of Iraq, it shows a fundamental lack of understanding of the stakes of the War on Terror.

For her part, Mrs. Heinz Kerry continued the campaign's fear mongering about the possible return of a military draft in a second Bush Administration. This is a despicable tactic employed by the Kerry Campaign trying to instill fear into parents and younger voters. She also said that she would not be surprised if the administration "trotted out" Osama bin Laden next month, insinuating that the Bush Adminstration either has Bin Laden and is waiting to reveal him at the most opportune moment or knows where he is and can capture him at any time. This is simply a continuation of the Democrats conspiracy theories, theories that have increased in numbers and insanity as the Party drifts further and further to the left.

Terrorist Butchers Kill Two Female Italian Aid Workers

Terrorists in Iraq claim to have killed two women from Italy who were working as volunteers delivering aid to the people of Iraq. How long will it be before the rest of the world, the United nations, John Kerry, and the Democrats who are urging the withdrawal of troops from Iraq realize the importance of the mission there? How many innocents have to be butchured by terrorists before John Kerry understands that Iraq is not a diversion from the war on terror, but the front line in the war?

Channeling Howard Dean, Part II

An earlier post on, A Time For Choosing, called John Kerry Channels Howard Dean, dealt with John Kerry's sudden veer to the left on the issue of Iraq. Today the editorial page of the Chicago Tribune has an editorial called, thats right, Channeling Howard Dean, that also deals with Kerry's sudden anti-war stance. It is a great editorial that cotians a lot of John Kerry's past statements in support of the war and his subsequent statements of the new, anti-war Kerry. (More on A Time For Choosing here, and here.) An excerpt of the Tribune editorial:

Kerry's aggressive defense of his own stand on Iraq came as no surprise: After his 2002 Senate vote to authorize the war, Kerry often characterized disarming Hussein as "the right decision." In May 2003, Kerry said on ABC that while he "would have preferred" more diplomacy before going to war, "I think it was the right decision to disarm Saddam Hussein. And when the president made the decision, I supported him, and I support the fact that we did disarm him."

As recently as last month, Kerry was sticking by that principle, stating that even if he had known the U.S. wouldn't find unconventional weapons in Iraq or prove close ties between Iraq and Al Qaeda, he still would have voted to authorize the war. But succeeding weeks have confronted Kerry with two harsh realities: His presidential candidacy has ebbed in public opinion polls, and Iraq has grown bloodier.

So it was bizarre, although not exactly shocking, to hear Kerry veer left during a speech on Monday: "We have traded a dictator for a chaos that has left America less secure ..." he said. "Invading Iraq has created a crisis of historic proportions, and if we do not change course, there is a prospect of a war with no end in sight."

Kerry, who knows a few things about changing course, evidently believes he and his Senate colleagues were right to give President Bush the authority to wage war, but that Bush was wrong to use the authority. What's more, he suggested, under Bush, we may be losing that war.

Kerry gave little definition to the change of course he represents. He did, though, say: "We could begin to withdraw U.S. forces starting next summer and realistically aim to bring all our troops home within the next four years."

That's the kind of specificity that different listeners hear in different ways. Appreciative Americans might fairly conclude that Kerry wants to bring our boys and girls home. Other groups--nervous Iraqi citizens awaiting democracy, the vicious insurgents who plague them, and the coalition forces serving alongside U.S. troops--might fairly conclude that the Democrat who would be president is primarily interested in getting the heck out of Iraq ASAP.

That is exactly what the President means when he states that John Kerry is sending the wrong message to the enemy. Dick Morris has declared John Kerry's new anti-war stance a loser, and although any Dick Morris assessment should be taken with a grain of salt, he makes very good points in his article in the New York Post. It seems that 30-40% of Kerry's supporters disagree with his new stance, giving the President room to take some of those moderates who believe that Iraq is integral to the war on terror. Dick Morris believes and states that this will be the end of the Kerry Campaign.

Kerry Says Bush Social Security Plan A "Rip-Off"

One of the most popular plans introduced by the President in 2000, and and re-emphasized in this election is the plan to allow younger workers to create a voluntary private account with part of the money they pay in Social Security taxes. The individual would control the private account and could invest the money as they see fit. In an age where most people have the opportunity to use the internet to move their 401-K money around (albeit in a limited number of preselected funds) and where many people, especially people in their 20's and 30's have experience investing online, this is a fantastic idea. Having most of my friends and associates in that age group, I know how popular the idea is amoung younger voters (across the political spectrum). Most of them enjoy controlling their retirement funds and would love to have the opportunity to invest a portion of the money they pay into Social Security. It would give those paying a sense of ownership and the comfort of knowing that at least that small portion of their money would be there when they retire.

In a speech in Florida, John Kerry labeled the plan a "rip-off" that would take money away from senior citizens. He stated that he would never "privatize social security". That is a dishonest and misleading statement made with the intent to scare retirees into thinking that the evil Republicans will take their money away. He even stated that the President's plan will drive senior citizens "out of the middle class". How disgusting, pathetic and predictable. To say that George Bush is "privatizing" social security by allowing a portion of the population to choose to invest a portion of their retirement is to knowingly distort the plan in an attempt to scare retirees.

This came in the same speech in which he stated that the draft might be re-instated under George Bush. Apparently his falling poll numbers have driven him to reconstitute his "Fear and Misery" tour. John Kerry has decided to throw off at least a portion of the young vote for the retiree vote. Politically it may be a smart move as older voters tend to vote in larger numbers than younger voters. But he may be underestimating the motivation of young people to get to the polls this year and he may be underestimating the popularity of the President's plan.

The President's plan is part of his theme of an "ownership society" and it is registering with younger voters, more than John Kerry's plan of higher taxes and greater governmental control is registering with them. It is interesting that it seems that the Republican Party is now offering more concrete proposals that will help the younger generation than the Democrats, who are usually seen as the party of the young. John Kerry's calling the Social Security plan a "rip-off" might have a benficial short term impact for him, but it is likely to have the long term impact of helping to draw more and more young peopel to the Republican Party.

Republicans Push To Extend Tax Credits

John Kerry Pulls Ads In Four States

In a sure sign of the state of John Kerry's campaign, he has pulled ads from four states including Arizona, Arkansas, Louisiana and the battleground state of Missouri.

We may see Kerry pull ads from other states given his new campaign theme is that President Bush is living in a "make-believe world".

Kerry States The Draft May Be Restored Under Bush

John Kerry indicated that the draft may be re-instated in a second Bush term. More scare tactics and another indication that the Kerry campaign's internal numbers must be falling. Instapundit has more on this here, Powerline has more here and the Drudge Report is running the headline here.

It is ironic that John Kerry said today that President Bush is living in a "make-believe world" in a speech in which he uses "make-believe" draft to try to scare people into voting for him.

New Swift Boat Veterans For Truth Ad Released

It is a stunner. In this ad, the Swifties concentrate on the fact that John Kerry flew to Paris to meet with Madame Binh, leader of the Communist North Vietnamese. Jane Fonda is featured in the ad as well, and the Swifties use her to point out that although she apologized for her actions, John Kerry has refused to do the same.

This is the Swift Boat Veteran's For Truth largest ad buy to date. The timing of this ad probably could not be worse for the Kerry Campaign, considering that Kerry decided to become the anti-war candidate, returning to his roots from the days when he met with the North Vietnamese, in his speech at NYU on Monday.

President Bush Speaks to The United Nations

President Bush spoke to the United Nations yesterday and offered a tough defense for the War in Iraq and the War on Terror and a challenge to the 120 or so nations assembled. The speech was excellent, and considering that mare than half of the nations assembled are controlled by dictators, very bold. Read the text of the speech here.

The speech was a sharp contrast to the speech given by his opponent the day before at NYU, a speech in which John Kerry called for retreat from Iraq and a scaling back of the war on terror to focus only on Bin Laden. He offered no vision for the future stability of the Middle East.

Several papers have editorials on the President's speech including, The Washington Times, and The New York Post.

John Kerry: The Anti-War Candidate

Now that John Kerry has managed to actually take a stance on Iraq it is possible to have a national debate on the issue. John Kerry has decided, for whatever reason, to be the McGovernesque anti-war candidate. He may have chosen that route because he had no other options left to him after having taken every other possible position, or he may have gone that route because that is how he has always felt. After all, Senator kerry opposed President Reagan's opposition to the Soviet Union and he opposed the First Gulf War that was approved by the United Nations. Whatever the reason he has contradicted himself again. The Bush Administration is most likely very happy with his decision. as he has now proven himself to be exactly what they have labled him the past few months, a weak on defense liberal. The state polls (and the national polls , depending on which you see) look bad for Kerry. In a state to state match-up he is either losing or is tied in states he shouldn't be, forcing his campaign to spend money in states that Gore won comfortably just four years ago.

The Wall Street Journal has an editorial on Mr. Kerry's reurn to his anti-war roots here, and Zev Chafets compares the speech of John Kerry at NYU to the President's speech and vision at the UN.

Advice To President Bush: Do Not Trust John McCain

I was a John McCain supporter in the primary of 2000. I now regret that I supported him and I am more thankful everyday that he did not get the nomination. In the years since the election of 2000 John McCain has become a media darling. It is rare that a Sunday goes by without John McCain making an appearance. What was billed as the "Straight Talk Express" has devolved into John McCain saying whatever he feels will keep him in front of the television cameras. He has become his own biggest fan, addicted to the red light on top of the camera and addicted to his own voice. The media loves him because he reserves his harshest criticism for Republicans, especially President Bush. The majority of the mainstream media hates the President, so any republican that criticizes him on national TV will have a special place in their hearts.

McCain's favorite and never-ending criticism on the war in Iraq is that there were and are too few troops. He is especially vocal with this criticism when there is a flurry of suicide bombings or kidnappings. He knows that the military plan including the number of troops used was devised by the military leaders, not by the President. he also knows that the number of troops on the ground is determined by the military commanders on the ground. President Bush has stated over and over that if the commanders request more troops they will get them. John McCain knows this, so why does he insist on repeating the assertion time and time again?

David Corn, who comes from the far left, has a theory in The Nation. he believes that it is possible that John McCain is planning to betray President Bush in October in an attempt to throw the election to John Kerry. Corn believes his motivation for this is revenge for the alleged Bush smear campaign from during the South Carolina primary in 2000. Corn draws on McCain's appearance on last Sunday;'s talk shows as evidence that he is setting the stage to defect, even as he campaigns for and with the President now.

Is it likely that McCain will actually jump ship? No. It is more likely that this is more spin from the media trying to portray John kerry as a centrist. The Kerry Campaign used this same tactic earlier when they repeatedly spread the rumor that McCain might accept the offer to be Kerry's VP. There was no truth to the rumor then, and there is likely no truth to it now. However, John McCain has one interest and that is keeping himself in the public eye. If he were to jump ship he would have to be certain that John Kerry would win and that he would be given a cabinet level position, because his constituants in Arizona would be furious and his chances for reelection would be close to zero. John Kerry has also made the possibility of a McCain defection on the grounds of Iraq war policy less likely in the past two days because of his decision to go hard left and become the antiwar candidate. How could John McCain justify supporting a man who now says he would have left Saddam Hussein in power?

John McCain probably won't betray the President, and even if he did it is not clear what the effect would be. The fact of the matter is that many Republicans already don't trust him, and many people would see his defection for what it would be, an attempt to undermine the President for personal gain.

John McCain should be treated as what he is, an unpredictable narcissist. The president would be well advised to keep him at arms length from now until the election.

To Democrats Surrendering = Taking A Stand

John Kerry gave a speech at NYU yesterday on Iraq. In his speech he made the stunning admission that if he had been President he would not have invaded Iraq. At this point it is not worth tracing the many flip-flops he has had on this central issue. He also stated that America is not safer with Saddam Hussein in prison. The rest of his speech was devoted to calling the President a miserable failure. Please read it for yourself. He did layout four bullet points that he called a plan. They are so irrelevant as to not warrant taking the space to repeat the m in this post. The thrust of the speech was that we are not safe, he would not have invaded Iraq, the war has cost too much and the President is a miserable failure who does not have the judgment to be Commander in Chief (doesn't have the judgment? laughable coming from the man who has been unable to take a stand on the war until now, and even now his stand is actually that of Howard Dean). Amazingly however, Kerry's rhetoric of retreat and surrender actually amounts to "taking a stand" to many Democrats. Yes he did say at one point in the speech that he would "destroy" the terrorists, but who can believe a man who's 20 year record in the Senate is one of appeasement, who said in his acceptance speech that he would respond to any attack on America note to Senator Kerry, we have already been attacked and the American people would like for it to not happen again), who has repeatedly said that the War in iraq is not part of the war on terror but a diversion, the war is not worth the cost in dollars or in lives, who now admits he would not have toppled Saddam and who believes that the destruction of that regime has actually made the world less safe?

Senator Kerry has finally in this campaign returned to his pacifistic roots. In the past few days as his poll numbers have fallen he has decided that his best chance to win is to become the rabid antiwar candidate, with just enough tough man talk to appease those Democrats who feel we might actually need to fight the terrorists. John Kerry will withdraw America from the War on Terror. There is little question of that. He has said that if we are attacked again he will respond militarily. the problem is it might be too late for 10,000 - 100,000 Americans at that point. The war on terror will be an enormously long difficult struggle which will require enormous sacrifices. We can either choose to fight it, or we can choose to sit and wait until the next attack on an American city. John Kerry will sit and wait, hoping that summits with the leaders of France and germany will some how ward off future attacks. He will use the funds for the war to fund education and socialized medicine, and to the Democratic Party and their allies in the press that is taking a stand. John Kerry was wrong about Vietnam, he was wrong about the Soviet Union, he was wrong about the US missions to topple communist regimes in Central America, he was wrong about the first Gulf War and he is wrong about this war. Liberals are incapable of fighting evil and that is exactly what we have to do for the foreseeable future. If you believe retreat in the face of adversity and under the threat of terrorist attacks is taking a stand, then by all means vote for John Kerry. If you believe we must fight and fight ot win, that no amount of money is too much to spend in the defense of this country then you cannot vote for the liberal from Massachusetts. If you are incapable of deciding, then do those in the country with the moral clarity to say we will not cower in the face of evil a favor and stay home November 2.

CBS, the Democrats and a Conspiracy To Take Down A President-Part II

The CBS/Democrat conspiracy to take down the President is all over the newpapers today. USA Today, who also received the documents form Bill Burkett has an incredible interview with the man, during which he has a seizure, invents a source named Lucy Ramirez, speaks of burning the originals, placing copies in cold storage and meeting at least twice with Mary Mapes, the CBS producer that recommended the Democrats contact Burkett as a source of information to counteract the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. If this man is the "unimpeachable source" Dan rather was refering to he should be fired, twice.

The Wall Street Journal has an article title, "Modified Limited Hangout", in which they say the Rather story looks more and more like a "partisan dirty trick". Considering the numerous contacts between CBS and the Kerry Campaign it is hard to conclude otherwise.

John Podhoretz makes it very clear that it was not CBS that was misled, but the American people who were misled by CBS.

The lesson to be learned from this is that the media and the Democrats are willing to go to any length to take down this president. Whether it is the use of forged documnets, the repeated showing of prisoner abuse photos from Abu Ghraib, the suppression of all good news from Iraq, the manipulation of polls, the refusal to report the good news on the economy, or the straight reading of Democratic talking points as a "news story" the mainstrwam media cannot be trusted. the American People have access to source documents, such as the text of speeches or the findings of commissions and they should read them. The new media also provides the means by which to check and cross check stories, an ability that the average American has bnever had before. the next time CBS, NBC, ABC or the cable networks broadcasts the news remember that tehy have an agenda as strong as any politician, and they are using you to get that agenda out.

Al-Queda Planning "Spectacular Attack"

Bill Gertz writes that al-Queda is planning a spectacular attack between now and the election, and that the threat level will remain high until election day. Interesting thought though, wouldn't the most effective day to launch an attack be election day? If the terrorists wanted to disrupt the democratic process, an attack on a major city the day of the election would do it. The entire voting process would have to be repeated as the fall out of the attack would ripple across the country and many people would stay home.

John Kerry Channels Howard Dean

John Kerry has now officially adopted the Howard Dean position on the War in Iraq. He stated today that he would not have deposed Saddam Hussein had he been president and that we are not safer today as a result of the toppling of one of the worlds most brutal dictators. It is too difficult a task to retrace all of the positions John Kerry has taken on the War in Iraq. It is helpful and important at this point ot remember that he voted for the War, voted against the funding of the war, stated just a few weeks ago that he would have voted for the war knowing everything he knows now, and today he did a complete reverse with his statement that he would not have toppled Hussein.

In his speech today at NYU, John Kerry stated:

"Saddam Hussein was a brutal dictator who deserves his own special place in hell," he added. "But that was not, in itself, a reason to go to war. The satisfaction we take in his downfall does not hide this fact: We have traded a dictator for a chaos that has left America less secure."

So Senator Kerry believes the war in Iraq and the toppling of Saddam Hussein has made America "less secure". Really? This is what John Kerry said on CNN's "Capital Gang" on December 20, 2003:

"Those who doubted whether Iraq or the world would be better off without Saddam Hussein and those who believe today that we are not safer with his capture don't have the judgment to be president or the credibility to be elected president."

Actually, Senator Kerry, I agree.

CBS, the Democrats and a Conspiracy To Take Down A President

Today's developments in the CBS fake documents scandal are almost unbelievable. This morning CBS issued one of the weakest non-apology statements in the history of big media scandals and retractions. Read the text if the statement here. Basically it is a non denial denial. The acknowledgment by CBS that the documents are fake is the least important development. Later this afternoon the Drudge Report revealed that the Bush Administration is considering not allowing Bob Schieffer to moderate the debate he was scheduled to moderate.

Then the blockbuster. The AP has reported tonight that Joe Lockhart has admitted to speaking to Bill Burkett, the man CBS News claimed provided the fake documents, at the BEHEST of CBS. The AP report in full:

NEW YORK - At the behest of CBS, an adviser to John Kerry said he talked to a central figure in the controversy over President Bush's National Guard service shortly before disputed documents were released.

Joe Lockhart denied any connection between the presidential campaign and the papers. Lockhart, the second Kerry ally to confirm contact with retired Texas National Guard officer Bill Burkett, said he made the call at the suggestion of CBS producer Mary Mapes.

"He had some advice on how to deal with the Vietnam issue and the Swift boat" allegations, Lockhart said Monday, referring to GOP-fueled accusations that Kerry exaggerated his Vietnam War record. "He said these guys play tough and we have to put the Vietnam experience into context and have Kerry talk about it more."

Lockhart said he thanked Burkett for his advice after a three to four minute call.

Lockhart said he does not recall talking to Burkett about Bush's Guard records. "It's baseless to say the Kerry campaign had anything to do with this," he said.

CBS News apologized Monday for a "mistake in judgment" in its story questioning Bush's Guard service, claiming it was misled by the source of documents that several experts have dismissed as fakes.

Burkett admitted this weekend to CBS that he lied about obtaining the documents from another former National Guard member, the network said. CBS hasn't been able to conclusively tell how he got them, or even whether they're fakes or not.

Kerry ally Max Cleland, a former Georgia senator, also said he had a brief conversation last month with Burkett, who told him he had information about Bush to counter charges against Kerry's Vietnam War service. Cleland said he gave Burkett's name and phone number to the campaign's research department.

Kerry spokesman David Ginsberg said nobody in the campaign's research department followed up on Burkett's offer of information.

Lockhart said Mapes asked him the weekend before the story broke to call Burkett. "She basically said there's a guy who is being helpful on the story who wants to talk to you," Lockhart said, adding that it was common knowledge that CBS was working on a story raising questions about Bush's Guard service. Mapes told him there were some records "that might move the story forward. She didn't tell me what they said."

Let's review the last paragraph again. Joe Lockhart stated that Mary Mapes asked him to contact Burkett before the story broke. She told him that there is "a guy that is being helpful on the story and he wants to talk to you." There it is, absolute collusion between a major network and the Democratic party. CBS was advising the Kerry Campaign on how to combat the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.

For years the media elite and the liberals have railed against the idea that their is a liberal bias in the media. We now have evidence not just of bias, but of collusion.

The story is huge. It has the potential to not only rock the world of network news, finally and forever changing the way Americans view broadcast news, but it has the potential to have a huge impact on the race for President. The link between the Kerry Campaign and the forged documents is real and it has been exposed. The American people will be made aware of the link and they will reject the politics behind it.

The next question that needs to be answered is why Joe Lockhart, a former adviser to President Clinton who recently joined the Kerry Campaign would volunteer such obviously damaging information to the media?

CBS: We Were Deceived

CBS is set to announce that they were decieved in regards to the phony memo's displayed by Dan Rather on 60 Minutes II. The Washington Post and the New York Times have reports. It is unclear whether an apology will be made by CBS. Unclear? They accuse the President of commiting a crime (ignoring a direct order) based on fraudulent documents, demand that he answer questions based on those documents, stand by the documents after it is clear they are a fraud, then after two weeks admit they rushed to air with a phoney story, but they are not sure they will apologize? It is also unclear whether Terry McAuliffe, Tom Harkin, the Kerry Campaign, the Boston Globe and the New York Times will apologize either. All of whom used the CBS story to call the President's Guard Service into question. In the case of the Kerry Campaign, John Edwards immediatly jumped on the story demanding that the President answer the "serious" questions and Terry McAuliffe and the DNC acyually ran TV ads that featured Dan Rather. Disgusting.

John Kerry's Sister: US Endangers Australians

From Little Green Footballs. Charles at Little Green Footballs has labeled this the "Outrage of the Day", but it is more than that.

The Kerry Campaign sent Diane Kerry, the younger sister of John Kerry to Australia in an attempt to undermine the alliance of countries fighting in Iraq. An excerpt:

John Kerry's campaign has warned Australians that the Howard Government's support for the US in Iraq has made them a bigger target for international terrorists.

Diana Kerry, younger sister of the Democrat presidential candidate, told The Weekend Australian that the Bali bombing and the recent attack on the Australian embassy in Jakarta clearly showed the danger to Australians had increased.

"Australia has kept faith with the US and we are endangering the Australians now by this wanton disregard for international law and multilateral channels," she said, referring to the invasion of Iraq.

Asked if she believed the terrorist threat to Australians was now greater because of the support for Republican George W. Bush, Ms Kerry said: "The most recent attack was on the Australian embassy in Jakarta -- I would have to say that."

This is disgraceful and John Kerry should be made to answer for the actions of his "overseas campaign". John Kerry has yet to explain his stance on the war on terror. He has taken every possible position on the war, but it is possible to get an insight into what the war on terror would look like under a Kerry Administration by referring to his senate record. This speech by his sister is the surest sign yet that the United States would withdraw from the war on terror under John Kerry. He would pull the troops out of Iraq under the pretense that the war was illegal and a distraction from the real war on terror. We would revert back the Clinton era of treating terrorism as a "law enforcement matter". Despite what he tries to convince the American people to believe our national security would be controlled by the United Nations, Kerry's sister's language to the Australian people clearly conveys that message:

"Australia has kept faith with the US and we are endangering the Australians now by this wanton disregard for international law and multilateral channels," she said, referring to the invasion of Iraq.

Wanton disregard for international law? Not surprisingly that is exactly the same language used by Kofi Annan over the weekend, when he asserted that the US led invasion of Iraq was a violation of international law. John Kerry is at heart a pacifist. He fought in Vietnam for four months but in the 35 years since his return he has fought against American power abroad and at home. He cannot give the American people his plan for the war because his plan is to withdraw from that war. The electorate would reject that, knowing that it would be disastrous. But his intentions are clear. He apparently felt that his "overseas campaign" was far enough removed from the shores of this country to allow his sister to plainly state his real views on the war on terror.

Zogby: Three Point Race

Zogby's latest poll shows a three point presidential race with George Bush leading John Kerry 46-43. The telephone poll was taken over a weekend of 1,000 likely voters.

Although the race is likely closer than the 13 point blowout that the latest Gallup Poll of likely voters showed, but the president's lead is probably in the 5-7 point range. More importantly, many battleground states have moved significantly toward the President. The Zogby Poll has always shown the President either losing or in a very close race. Zogby also announced on May 10th that the election was Kerry's race to lose. May 10th, seven months before the election. Zogby's poll results should be read through the prism of the fact that he was willing to call the race seven months before the election.

Roy Hoffman On John Kerry

Roy Hoffman, founder of the Swift Boat Veterans For Truth has a guest column in today's Richmond Times-Dispatch. It is a devestating article, at leaset as powerful as the commercials that have been released. At the end of the article Rear Admiral Hoffman, who was the overall commander of US Swift Boats during Kerry's time in Vietnam, discusses John Kerry's meeting with Madame Binh in Paris in 1970. Hoffman states that Kerry returned to teh United States after meeting with the leader of the Communist North Vietnamese and urged the American government to accept her peace agreement.

There are many people who probably do not know that John Kerry met with the North Vietnamese (the enemy) during a time of war while still a commissioned officer, without permission of the United States government. This fact is sure to make it into an upcoming Swift Boat Veterans for Truth ad.

CBS Ignored Concerns About Memos

The Washington Post has an article that details how the CBS document debacle happened. It is a long article that boils down to a simple point: CBS was so anxious to damage the President that they ignored the warnings they recieved about the authenticity of the documents. They rushed the story to air and now they are paying the price. Dan Rather is not an unbiased reporter of the news, he is a partisan that attempts to sway the opinion of the public with his broadcasts.

All The Cook's In Kerry's Kitchen

If the state of a candidates campaign can be judged by the number of people who find it necessary to offer advice, the Kerry Campaign must be in trouble. RealClearPolitics has an almost incredible list of articles and columns by people who are either trying to explain what has happened to the Kerry Campaign or who are offering advice. The linst includes:

The Madness in The Kerry Campaign: Thomas Oliphant, The Boston Globe

Kerry's New Call to Arms: Richard Wolffe and Susannah Meadows, Newsweek

Kerry's Muddled Message: Gloria berger, US News and World Report

To Win Kerry Will Have To Answer Hard Questions: Clive Crook, National Journal

Kerry Edwards Subterfuge: Washington Times

And a section devoted only to people offering their advice: Leon panetta, Donna Brazile, Bob Kerrey, and Paul Glastris

This is a sign of big trouble within the campaign. The strategists will offer their advice" concentrate on domestic issues, play to the "choas" in Iraq, and so on. The problem is not strategy however, it is the candidate. John Kerry cannot take a position on any issue now without contradicting something he has said in past. It is the same for domestic issues as it is for issues of national security. He will have the same problem in the dabates. He will speak with hollow eloquence, taking a lot of words to say nothing, unable to take a firm position without alienating half of his base. The American people will compare that to George Bush straight, honest answers and although many will not agree with everything he says they will at least know what he means and where he stands.

Is Max Cleland the "Unimpeachable Source"?

Is Max Cleland Dan Rather's "unimpeachable source"? Bill Burkett, the man many people believe to be the source of the CBS documents has revealed that he passed along information to former Senator Cleland who is now working for the Kerry Campaign. Did Max Cleland then give the documents to good old reliable Dan Rather? It could explain Dan's repeated assertion that the documents came from an "unimpeachable source". It is becoming increasingly apparent that no one from the TANG supplied the documents to CBS, so who could have done it? Who would Dan Rather have so much confidence in that he would be willing to stake the reputation of CBS News and his career on? Who has played a very prominent role in the Kerry Campaign, especially on the Vietnam War front? Who has the motive to want to strike back at the President and the Republicans due to his defeat in 2002? Who recently made a very public trip to Texas on behalf of the Kerry Campaign? Who does Bill Burkett acknowledge speaking to on the phone? Who acknowledges speaking to Bill Burkett on the phone? Who does Bill Burkett acknowledge "passing information" to? The answer to all of these questions is Max Cleland. The embittered former Senator from Georgia who still claims to have lost his seat due to a television ad that he claims attacked his patriotism. A Vietnam War veteran who's hatred for the President and the Republicans has reached a boiling point in this campaign.

Bill Burkett has an incredibly long and shady record of making baseless allegations against the President. Surely Dan Rather could not consider him "unimpeachable". But if the documents came from a former Senator CBS and Dan Rather would be a lot more likely to take the documents at face value and a lot less likely to believe that the documents are fake. A former Senator would never be part of a scheme to take the President down using forged documents would he? If Max Cleland did give the documents to CBS and he did receive them from Bill Burkett it is likely that the former Senator did not know the memos were a fake. He may very well have assumed that CBS would authenticate the documents before going to air.

A Theory on the CBS Debacle:

A random former National Guardsman contacts Senator Cleland and says he has found a treasure trove of damaging documents from the TANG. The former Senator, still angry about his defeat in 2002 tells him to fax them to his office and he will take a look, not making any promises and possibly not taking the man on the phone very seriously. The former Guardsman faxes the documents. Senator Cleland reads them, comes to the conclusion that they may be authentic and decides that the story is to good to not try to score points with. He then passes the documents to CBS assuming (or maybe not) that CBS would have their "experts" authenticate them. CBS calls several experts and people with direct knowledge of the President's service. Several experts declare the documents suspicious and several of the people with first hand knowledge of the President's service say the documents are inaccurate. CBS shops around until they find someone to tell them what they want to hear, ignoring the experts who might have a negative impact on a story they have been pursuing for three years. After all, the documents came from a former Senator with "unimpeachable credentials". They agree to keep the source and the "experts" anonymous. In a rush to shore up a struggling Kerry Campaign, Dan rather launches the story on 60 Minutes II. Within hours the memos are called into question. In the following days it becomes obvious the memos are fake. Dan is incredulous and unbelieving. He refuses to believe that a former Senator who himself lost three limbs in the Vietnam War would pass him fake documents pertaining to the President's service and allow him to go to air with them. After several more days Dan Rather realizes he has been had. But he knows that if he admits the documents are a fraud he will be forced to reveal his source, a source with direct links to the Kerry Campaign. Rather knows that if the public finds out that the Kerry Campaign is responsible (directly or indirectly) for the forged documents, the campaign is all but over.

What Rather Might Do

Rather speaks to Cleland, Cleland tells him that he received the documents from Bill Burkett. With increasing pressure from affiliates and within CBS News Rather decides that he has to come clean and name his source. But instead of naming Cleland as the source he names Burkett, who did originally create the memos, but who is not technically the CBS source. Rather escapes with no dignity but a job and the entire debacle is laid at the feet of Burkett, allowing Cleland and the Kerry Campaign to get off the hook.

This is only a theory about what could have happened and what might happen in the near future. It is based on the speculation that Dan rather could not be stupid enough to consider Bill Burkett an "unimpeachable source", which would point to a third man so to speak. Hey, if the Democrats can run an entire presidential campaign on conspiracy theories why can't we have a few of our own?

For an example of how confident Dan Rather had to be in his source to not see the memos were fake, click here.

President Bush Comments On Document Flap

In an interview with the Manchester Union Leader, President Bush stated that there were , "lots of questions about the documents and they need to be answered". Mark Steyn: Why the Stonewall?

A must read eviceration of Dan Rather and CBS News. It has become apparent that Dan rather and CBS News President Andrew Heyward are simply co-conspirators in a plot to assassinate the character of the President. They are unable to come clean about the memos because they would then be forced to reveal their source, and as Mark Steyn concludes, that would be more incriminating and damaging then the slow suicide of standing by the ludicrous memos. CBS News is a laughing stock, Dan Rather the punchline of jokes and Network News an aging dinosaur that grows less significant with each passing day.

Pentagon Releases More Bush Guard Documents

Yesterday the Pentagon released sevral more files pertaining to teh Presidents sevice in the Texas Air National Guard. The press doesn't seem to be interested in these documents however, probably because they include a letter to the President's father citing his son's excellent performance and include proof that President Bush did indeed make up Guard Duties that he missed while in Alabama. The AP's Matt Kelley filed this report.
It is interesting and pthetic to read how the AP and the Democrats have tried to spin the latest documents. The AP reporter actually manages to mention Kitty Kelley and her tabloid book. Most telling and most pathetic is Terry McAuliffe's statement:

"If the president was truly proud of his service he wouldn't be releasing these documents on a Friday night," DNC chairman Terry McAuliffe said in a statement. "These documents demonstrate yet again that George Bush was a fortunate son who received special consideration unavailable to the average American."

Yep. The Pentagon released the documents on a Friday night, so that must be proof of some sort of wrongdoing.

Florida Supreme Court Puts Nader On Ballot

The Florida Supreme Court ruled that Ralph Nader can appear on the Florida Presidential ballot as the Reform Party Candidate, dealing a blow to the Kerry Campaign who has launched a nation wide effort to remove him. The ruling was made within a deadline imposed to allow the distribution of some 25,000 absentee ballots.

More Bad Poll News for Kerry

When looking at polls, conservatives and republicans need to be aware of two things.

1. Polls can change quickly. This campaign will be event driven. Events in Iraq and with the economy will drive the electorate in one direction more than any number of millions spent on campaign commercials and rallies. The media will attempt to drive the election toward Kerry, as we have plainly seen with the ridiculous refusal by Dan Rather and CBS News to come clean on the famous memos. In fact, if Dan Rather's refusal to come clean has done anything it has made the public acutely aware of the fact that the media is willing to distort the truth in order to help Kerry. Rather has managed to eliminate a lot of the advantage that Kerry had in the press, but the mainstream media will still attempt to portray Iraq as a quagmire and the economy slowing. Those are the two issues the campaign will be decided on.

2. The Democrats will cheat. If you do not think the Democrats actually cheat in elections you have not been paying attention, and you need to read Hugh Hewitt's book, If It's Not Close They Can't Cheat . They have cheated in the past, they are planning on cheating this year and they will cheat in the future. The only question this election is how wide ranging the cheating will be this year. On the Sean hannity Show, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich stated that he was confident that the Democrats would manage to steal at least one million votes in this election. One million. It is important to remeber that several states, not just Florida, were decided by just a few hundred votes. One million illegal votes can swing many close states.

With those two things in mind it is important that Republicans not become complacent after seeing the poll numbers that are coming out. The new CBS/NY Times Poll has the President leading 50-41 among registered voters. That is almost exactly in line with the Gallup Poll released today that gave the President a 13 point lead among likely voters and an eight point lead among registered voters. As noted in a previous post, Al Hunt worried today in the Wal Street Journal that the polls may be wrong. he fretted that a poll of registered voters may be more accurate than that of likely voters because of the intense "get out the vote" efforts in this election. A "likely voter" poll usually favors the Republican candidate. If that is the case, Republicans can feel good that in the last two major polls released the President has a helathy lead among registered voters. But the recent success should motivate republicans to work harder, not grow complacent.

John Kerry Dwells in the House of Moore

John Kerry and the Democrats went around the bend today, off the charts, over the edge straight to the land of Michael Moore, deep into the fever swamps of conspiracies. In a campaign stop, John Kerry claimed that Dick Cheney was directly profiting from Halliburton’s Iraq contracts and that the President has a ”secret plan” for troop deployments that he is hiding from the electorate.

A “secret plan”? Halliburton? We are now 46 days outside of the election and John Kerry is talking about “secret plans”, Halliburton, and President Bush’s National Guard Service from 35 years ago. This is nuts. What is he talking about?

At the same time, Nancy Pelosi, Democratic leader of the House, stated:

"It's clear that this administration didn't know what it was getting into, or else they grossly misrepresented the facts to the American people," said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. "In either case, staying the course is not an option."

Staying the course is not an option? Not an option? The Democratic leader of the house says that staying the course in Iraq is not an option? So if the Democrats win we will withdraw from not only from Iraq, but from the war on terror as a whole. If the Democrats cannot see that the War in Iraq is part of the war on terror the country is in trouble if they are given the reigns of power.

Forty-six days from the election and John Kerry has gone into conspiracy theories. There is not a single person in the country that could outline his policy for Iraq or the war on terror, and he continues to dwell in the fever swamps. John Kerry’s lack of a core and lack of clarity are no longer humorous, they are scary. If this man is allowed to control the country during this time, we will indeed “drift toward tragedy”.

Colonel Staudt Speaks out

Retired Colonel Walter Staudt, the man who is cited in the forged memos displayed by CBS News, defended by Dan Rather and used in a TV ad by the Democrats as having put pressure on Lt. Col. Killian to “sugarcoat” the President’s Guard Service has finally spoken out. He told ABC News in an exclusive interview that he decided to speak out after seeing “erroneous” reports on television. He stated that he was the man that interviewed the President for the National Guard and that there was no political pressure applied or used to get him in:

"He didn't use political influence to get into the Air National Guard," Staudt said, adding, "I don't know how they would know that, because I was the one who did it and I was the one who was there and I didn't talk to any of them."

He also said that he never pressured anybody to “sugarcoat” the President’s service, because he did not have to:

"He was highly qualified," he said. "He passed all the scrutiny and tests he was given."
Staudt said he never tried to influence Killian or other Guardsmen, and added that he never came under any pressure himself to accept Bush. "No one called me about taking George Bush into the Air National Guard," he said. "It was my decision. I swore him in. I never heard anything from anybody."

So now what Dan? Now will you admit the memos are fake?

Just for fun from Cox and Forkum editorial cartoons. At the same time the Chicago Tribune has ripped into CBS.

Nowhere Left To Flop

Charles Krauthammer hits that nail on the head with his column today. It is a concise summary of the many stances Kerry has taken on Iraq. It also goes to the heart of the problem that Kerry will have in the debates. What can he say about Iraq that won't contradict four or five previous stances he has taken?

Bill Burkett, Possible Source of CBS Memos Compared Bush To Hitler

This must be what Dan Rather means when he says the source was reliable. Of course comparing Bush to Hitler has become mainstream in the Democratic Party, so Dan probably did not see this as a warning flag.

Iraq War Allies Rip Kofi Annan

It is funny how the broadcast media doesn't bring stories like this to the attention of the public. Our allies int he war have lashed out at Kofi Annan for his incredible statement that the war was illegal because it was not sanstioned by the UN.

Kerry Supporters Rip Sign/Terrorize Three Year Old Girl

Democrats should be proud that this is what their party and their campaign have come to. While sitting on her fathers shoulders, three year old Sophia Parlock had a Bush/Cheney sign she was holding ripped from her hands by a union thug/Kerry supporter. The thug/Kerry supporter then proceeded to rip the sign to shreds and taunt the girl and her father. See photos here.
Notice the "man" who apparently ripped the sign is a member of the International Union of Painters and Allied trades, website here. It is appropriate that the Union here from as many people as possible. The email address is:

The Union should have the opportunity to hear how people feel about one of their members terrorizing a three year old girl. This is disgusting, but it is not the first time something like this has happened. It appears that Kerry's support has been distilled to the lowest common denominator of society. It was only a week or so ago that Democratic thugs roughed up a young Republican at the Minnesota State Fair. Then there is the story of the drunken, vicious Kerry supporter on a Northwest Airlines flight to Alaska who got so out of hand that the plane was forced to make an emergency landing. The Democratic Party is a proud, proud, party indeed.
