Rather Decides To Go Down With The Ship

The prediction in my previous post, CBS Will Never Admit Documents Are Fake, has come true. Dan Rather went on CNN this morning to defend the memo's he used on 60 Minutes. He also said there will be no apology or retraction, that he is confident the documents are real. Drudge has a partial transcript. Notice that he immediately takes the Democratic line that the questions raised by his report must be answered. He does not mentioan an internal investigation. So far every analyst that has looked at the documents and is willing to be named has concluded that the documents appear to be poor quality fakes.

Dan Rather is betting what is left on his career on these documents. Powerline has a theory on why Rather has decided to run with the story and a lead on the origins of the documents. Check back for updates.
