"Ode To the Left Be-Heinz"

As posted at Observations:

When polls were closed,
We all supposed
It couldn't be much closer!
Now Libs are torn,
And Soros is moroser!

The votes were cast,
And now at last
The counting could begin.
Monsieur LaMoore
Was very sure
His flick would do George in.

But now instead,
The states are Red,
And Hollywood is Blue.
Ben Affleck's mad,
Sarandon's sad,
And Whoopi's come unglued!

Begala whines,
The Left Be-Heinz,
"The Boss" just wonders..."HOW!?"
James Carville pouts,
O'Donnell shouts...
No time to Ketchup now!

The Kerry Crowd
Was brash and loud;
The cool and hip were pumped!
In Franken-Land
They took their stand...
"War Hero" John's been dumped.

Lord, what a mess!
Dan Rather wears a frown.
He's quite distressed...
Some say depressed.
Poor Dan,
He's goin' down.

There's "Hardball" Chris,
Who loved to kiss
The rear of liberal guests...
Convention night
Ol' Zell was right...
To that we may attest.

It's sinkin' in...
Oh my! They're all in shock!

Ukranian TV Revolts

Reporters and journalists working for the country's state run television have revolted, stating they will no longer tell the "government's lies":

Journalists on Ukraine's state-owned channel - which had previously given unswerving support to Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych - have joined the opposition, saying they have had enough of "telling the government's lies".

Journalists on another strongly pro-government TV station have also promised an end to the bias in their reporting. The turnaround in news coverage, after years of toeing the government line, is a big setback for Mr Yanukovych.

Journalists in Ukraine seem to have responded to the call by opposition leader Viktor Yushchenko for them to reject government censorship.

A correspondent on the state channel, UT1, announced live on the evening bulletin that the entire news team was going to join the protests in Independence Square. She said their message to the protesters was: "We are not lying anymore".

The media in the United sttaes could take a lesson from the journalists in the Ukraine and reject the Democratic Party's talking points, but it is safe to assume that the journalists in the Ukraine have more integrity than say, Dan Rather, Katie Couric, Maureen Dowd or anyone else that appears on the network newscast or in your daily paper.

The revolution appears to be gathering steam, as hundreds of thousands have taken to the streets and have blockaded government buildings in protest of what seems to be a clearly fraudualent election result.

The election has also pitted Russian President Vladimir Putin against President Bush. The US has already said that the election results are not acceptable because the election did not meet international standards. Putin believes that the results are clear and that the candidate he backed won.

The situation on the Ukraine is incredible. We are witnessing a populist revolution, the triumph of liberty and democracy over the clan rule that has dominated the eastern bloc countries since the fall of the Soviet Union. If Russia had visions af reassembling the former empire through crooked elections, a Soviet Union in everything but name, the revolt of the Ukrainian people could be a fatal blow to that dream. This is a very interesting and fluid, situation. Check back for developments.

Zarqawi Lieutenant Arrested

While most Americans were enjoying Thanksgiving dinner, the US military kept up the offensive in Iraq clearing houses in Fallujah and attacking insurgents anywhere they might be hiding. The US captured a lead Zarqawi Lt and has now cleared over half of all homes in Fallujah. The Marines also discovered what they believe is the largest weapons cache yet discovered, and it was found in a mosque.

The operations continue and the terrorists are running out of places to hide.

Happy Thanksgiving

General Thanksgiving
By the PRESIDENT of the United States Of America

WHEREAS it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favour; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me "to recommend to the people of the United States a DAY OF PUBLICK THANSGIVING and PRAYER, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:"

NOW THEREFORE, I do recommend and assign THURSDAY, the TWENTY-SIXTH DAY of NOVEMBER next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed;-- for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish Constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted;-- for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge;-- and, in general, for all the great and various favours which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also, that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions;-- to enable us all, whether in publick or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shewn kindness unto us); and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.

GIVEN under my hand, at the city of New-York, the third day of October, in the year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and eighty-nine.

The Ukranian Election

For those of you who have not been following Ukrainian Presidential election, a serious and interesting problem has occured. The Moscow backed candidate claimed victory against the very western leaning challenger after the votes were cast, however it appears there was massive fraud. This has sparked huge protests, by supporters of Viktor Yushchenko, the west leaning candidate. So obvious was the fraud, that the White House released this statement:

The United States is deeply disturbed by extensive and credible indications of fraud committed in the Ukrainian presidential election. We strongly support efforts to review the conduct of the election and urge Ukrainian authorities not to certify results until investigations of organized fraud are resolved. We call on the Government of Ukraine to respect the will of the Ukrainian people, and we urge all Ukrainians to resolve the situation through peaceful means. The Government bears a special responsibility not to use or incite violence, and to allow free media to report accurately on the situation without intimidation or coercion. The United States stands with the Ukrainian people in this difficult time.

Vaclav Havel, former President of the Czech Republic made this statement via RFE:

"Taipei, November 23, 2004

Dear Citizens,

Allow me to greet you in these dramatic days when the destiny of your country is being decided for decades ahead. You have its future in your hands. All trustworthy organizations, both local and international, agree that your demands are just. That is why I wish you strength, perseverance, courage and good fortune with your decisions.

Yours truly,

Vaclav Havel"

Was It an Assassination Attempt?

For those of you who did not watch the news this weekend, President Bush, while on a visit to Chile, had to step into a Fracas to seperate his lead Secret Service agent fro Chilaen security who were refusing to allow him to stay with the President. President Bush turned when he heard the disturbance, went back, pushed into the crowd and pulled the SS agent out of the scuffle by the collar. The agent was then allowed to enter the banquet hall with the President. (Read more and see photos here) The next day a huge banquet was cancelled because the Chilaen security would not agree to have all guests pass through a metal detector before entering the dinner. The Secret Service considered this an unnacceptable risk, and the dinner was cancelled.

The Chilaen security team intentionally closed ranks behind the President in an attempt to seperate him from his security detail. They knew the men the cut-off were SS agents, so why would they attempt to seperate them from the President? My thoughts and the thopughts of several people I told about the ioncident immediately went to an assassination attempt. An attempt that was foiled when the President retrieved his agent.

Powerline has a regular emailer to their site that seems to agree that this was a very serious incident, and the fact that the official state dinner was cancelled the next day seems to underscore the fact that the SS considered it a serious situation. A full investigation should take place. these are dangerous times, and the Presdient is hated by tens of thousands including terrorist groups that operate in South America. Every precaution must be taken to protect him and every security service must comply with the SS agents demands.

French Troops Fire On Unarmed Civilians

Unbelieveable. From the country that made millions and millions of dollars worth of oil deals with Saddam, who refused to back our effort to remove the dictator and who's President recently said the world would be better off if Saddam were still in power, comes not only the story of French troops firing on unarmed civilians, but a video of it as well...

More on the President's Aiding of the Secret Service

For those who don't know, President Bush inserted himself into the middle of a pushing and shoving match between one of his Secret Service agents and Chilean security who had refused to allow the SS agent to accompany the President into a banquet room. The President essentially pushed through a crowd, reached over the fighting security men, grabbed the Secret Service agent by the collar and pulled him from the fight and resolved the issue.

Read last night's post and see pictures here.

The incident happened too late last evening for many of the big papers to carry a story, but the Washington Times does have a piece that provides details of the incident and background information on what led to the scuffle. The story leaves you with the impression that the Chilean security staff is not accostomed to dealing with the security that surrounds the President of the United States.

Moral of the story for the Chileans: Don't Mess With Texas.

President Bush Aides Secret Service Agent In Fracas

The story is incredible, probably unprecedented, and it is an example of why this President has very, very loyal people who shoose to serve with him:

President Bush stepped into the middle of a confrontation and pulled his lead Secret Service agent away from Chilean security officials who barred his bodyguards from entering an elegant dinner for 21 world leaders Saturday night.

Several Chilean and American agents got into a pushing and shoving match outside the cultural center where the dinner was held. The incident happened after Bush and his wife, Laura, had just posed for pictures on a red carpet with the host of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (search) summit, Chilean President Ricardo Lagos and his wife, Luisa Duran.

As Bush stepped inside, Chilean agents closed ranks at the door, blocking the president's agents from following. Stopping for more pictures, Bush noticed the fracas and turned back. He reached through the dispute and pulled his agent from the scrum and into the building.

The president, looking irritated, straightened his shirt cuffs as he went into the dinner. The incident was shown on APEC television.

"Chilean security tried to stop the president's Secret Service from accompanying him," said White House deputy press secretary Claire Buchan. "He told them they were with him and the issue was resolved."

Go here for a full photo sequence. This is why the men in the military and their families support this president, and why so many Americans are so loyal to him. In short, he earns our respect.

Bin Laden Unable to Provide Command and Control

Bin Laden bin runnin'. It is a bad joke, but it appears to be very good news. The pursuit of Bin Laden by US special forces and thousands of troops from the Pakistani military seems to be effective. According to the deputy commander of Central Command, the lead terrorist has been forced into ev er more remote mountainous areas in an attempt to avoid capture, leaving him no ability to communicate other than courier:

"They are living in the remotest areas of the world without any communications — other than courier — with the outside world or their people and unable to orchestrate or provide command and control over a terrorist network," said Lt. Gen. Lance Smith (search), deputy commander of Central Command.

"They are basically on the run and unable to really conduct operations except, in the very long term, provide vision and guidance as Usama bin Laden does when he provides one of those tapes," he added, alluding to a bin Laden video tape released three weeks ago.

It may take weeks, months or years but Bin Laden will be caught. For now we will have to be satisfied that he is forced to live in a hole somewhere in the mountains.

Terrorists Trying To Ignite Ethnic War

The terrorists in Iraq are trying ignite an ethnic war by attacking the Kurds. They have intensified attacks on Kurds recently and at least one Kurd is thought to have been beheaded in Mosul:

"They are trying to ignite the flames of sedition between Arabs and Kurds," Khasro Gouran, Mosul's Kurdish deputy provincial governor, said by telephone from Mosul. "They want the Kurds to react and the peshmerga to come in (from outside Mosul) so there would be sectarian strife in the city."

"They won't succeed because the Kurdish leadership is aware of their plans," Gov. Duraid Kashmoula, an Arab, said of the insurgents.

The Kurds are not the only ones under attack. During the latest bout of violence, masked men have stormed police stations, looting and burning some. They've also set up their own checkpoints and set cars ablaze, prompting the Americans to launch military operations to oust fighters from their stronghold in the city.

The enemy we face is terrified of the thought that Iraq will hold free and fair elections in January. They will do eveything they can to prevent it from happening, including trying to start anethnic or civil war in Iraq. Luckily to this point, the forces in the country that want a free and fair election seem to be stronger than then the forces of evil. The Kurds understand the stakes and will not be lured into a conflict. They should be praised for their restraint.

Sears/Kmart Acquires France

Newly merged Sears/Kmart has now acquired France:

The retail industry received another shake-up today as Sears Holding Corp. (NYSE: S), the parent company behind the recent merger of Sears and Kmart, announced the acquisition of embattled European cheesemaker France (NASDAQ: FROG). The buyout deal, estimated at $2.7 billion, will position Sears/Kmart/France as the world's third largest retailer and 15th ranked military power.

Reaction of Wall Street was mixed, with shares of Paris-based France rising 11% in late trading after the announcement, while Hoffman Estates, IL-based Sears Holdings dropped 19%.

"The acquisition of France indicates there will be further consolidation within the low-end, weird-smelling retail segment," said Ivan Kaplan, a retail analyst with Bear Stearns. "I wouldn't be surprised if Sears picks up another floundering discounter like Winn-Dixie. Or possibly Spain."

Gary Reed, an analyst with UBS, said the deal would position Sears/Kmart/France to remain competitive against mega-retailer Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT).

"It only makes sense for them to united to face a common foe," said Reed. "Both Sears and Kmart have lost significant retail share to Wal-Mart, and France recently surrendered Provence after the invasion of paratroopers from the 131st Wal-Mart Greeter Airborne."

"Attention Kmart shoppers! The glory of France, she is born anew," crowed France CEO Jacques Chirac, who will continue as head of the corporation's Northeast regional merchandising division.

Marines Discover Zarqawi Headquarters

A very interesting story that includes the fact that above the door of the supposed headquarters of the terrorist leader was a banner that read "Al Queada Organization":

In video shot by an embedded CNN cameraman, soldiers walked through an imposing building with concrete columns and with a large sign in Arabic on the wall reading "Al Qaida Organization" and "There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is his messenger."

Inside the building, U.S. soldiers found documents, old computers, notebooks, photographs and copies of the Quran.

Something’s Shaking In North Korea

First there was the news last week that North Korea may be easing on it’s nuclear demands. Now we are learning that the North Korean government seems to be easing away from the cult like reverence of the “Dear Leader” Kim Jong Il:

SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea seems to be softening its hitherto rigid personality cult around leader Kim Jong-il, experts on the reclusive communist state said Thursday -- although they were still unsure why the changes had been made.
Some diplomats in Pyongyang and experts in the South said this week portraits of Kim had been removed from some public places, starting as far back as September or even August.

Some visitors to the North have said fewer people wear lapel badges bearing Kim's image. Seoul's Yonhap news agency reported that Kim himself had ordered the portrait shift three weeks ago because he was concerned his image had been "lifted too high."

Experts are giving many possible reasons for the change, but it may not be as complicated as the “experts” are making it out to be. In this post from last week regarding the softening stance on their nuclear position, the North Koreans basically stated that they would soften their stance if President Bush allowed the regime to exist. Kim Jong Il is scared. It is important to remember that when the United States invaded Iraq Kim Jong Il went into hiding for fear that we were coming after him. The reelection of President Bush has probably convinced him that unless things change, he will share the fate of Saddam Hussein. Why would this fear lead “Dear Leader” to order that many of his portraits be removed and the population soften their reverence toward him? Kim Jong Il realizes that the cult following enforced by the regime is bizarre to the rest of the world and adds to the belief that the regime is a backwards and oppressive, it in effect draws unwanted attention to him. Kim Jong Il has launched a PR offensive to save his regime and his life. The President’s inclusion of the regime in his “Axis of Evil” speech, and his steadfastness in the War in Iraq, combined with his reelection has done more to convince the regime of North Korea that they must reform, than any agreement reached in six party talks ever will.

Something is shaking in North Korea, and it appears to be Kim Jong Il in his own boots. Look for the North Korean regime to continue to soften in the near future.

Thomas Sowell Makes Sense

Thomas Sowell is one of the most featured writers on A Time For Choosing. His articles are always insightful and well written. Today, Mr. Sowell writes about what it means to "support the troops" in light of the media frenzy that has erupted over the video showing a Marine killing a terrorist. As usual, Mr. Sowell makes more sense than most writing or talking about this subject:

During the recent election campaign, it has been a liberal mantra that they "support the troops" while opposing the war in Iraq. Just what does supporting the troops mean -- other than just a throwaway line to escape the political consequences of a long history of being anti-military?

It certainly does not mean making the slightest effort to understand the pressures and dangers of combat, so as to avoid the obscenity of sitting in peace and comfort while second-guessing at leisure some life-and-death decisions that had to be made in a split second by men 10,000 miles away.

The latest example is the now widely-publicized incident in which an American Marine in Iraq shot and killed a wounded terrorist in Fallujah. Chris Matthews on Hardball spoke of "what may be the illegal killing of a wounded, unarmed insurgent" -- the politically correct media term for a terrorist -- and asked: "Is there ever a justification for shooting an unarmed enemy?"

The unreality of this question is breath-taking, both logically and historically. How do you know that someone is unarmed, when finding out can cost you your life? A hand grenade is easily concealed and can kill you just as dead as if you were shot by a machine gun or hit by a nuclear missile.

The media's breathless reporting on the video and their immediate condemnation of the Marine demonstrates one thing, and it is not that the Marine is a "cold blooded murderer", it is that the media elite do not have the slightest understanding of war. Of course no one truly does unless they have fought in combat, and that is the whole point. Why would the media instantly condemn a US Marine for conduct in a situation they have no ability to understand? Why is the benefit of doubt given, in a sense, given to the dead terrorist, and not to the American that has volunteered to travel 10,000 miles to risk his life? How different would the situation have been if people in the media like Chris Matthews had stated that the Marine had to be given the benefit of the doubt, considering the situation? Of course that would never happen, which leads to a bigger question: Why do the elites in the media and academia and yes, in the Democratic party, always make the assumption that the soldiers are in the wrong? Is that what they mean when they say they "support the troops"? Does a cameraman who films such an incident and immediatley gives it, with no other context, to a TV station that broadcasts it around the world with the full knowledge of the effect that the video will have "support the troops"? Does the broadcast network who made it available to Arab media outlets "support the troops"? Do commentators like Chris Matthews and Matt Lauer who condemn the soldier, without knowing the context of the situation, "support the troops"?

The hard answer is no. They pay lip service to it because they have to in order to, As Thomas Sowell stated, "escape the political consequences of a long history of being anti-military". How do we know how they really feel? Because they let thier true feeling slip out in less guarded moments. Chris Matthews for instance, has yet to decide who the "bad guys" really are in Fallujah. Consider this comment made by him just a few days ago:

"Well, let me ask you about this. If this were the other side, and we were watching an enemy soldier --a rival, I mean they're not bad guys especially, just people who just disagree with us, they are in fact the insurgents, fighting us in their country-- if we saw one of them do what we saw our guy do to that guy, would we consider that worthy of a war crimes charge?

(Read more about that statement here.) To Chris Matthews, the terrorists we are fighting in Fallujah aren't "bad guys especially", they just "disagree with us". Given that belief, it is easy to see how Mr. Matthews can immediately condemn the Marine. Mr. Matthews believes that the man the Marine killed "wasn't a bad guy". So if the terrorist is "not a bad guy" and he is killed by a Marine for no reason that is apparent to Chris Matthews sitting in his TV studio, then the Marine is no better than a street thug in America that kills a person for no reason. Context means nothing to Chris Matthews, nor does the fact that the "street thug" is a US Marine fighting in day after day of heavy urban combat.

The media is "neutral". They have no more feeling for the US Marine than they do for the terrorist, they are each combatants in a war that they do not agree with.

Iran Attempting To Build Nuclear Missiles

Colin Powell has stated that he has seen intelligence that Iran is attempting to build missiles that could be armed with a nuclear warhead. Of course they are, this should not be a surprise to anyone, nor should it be a surprise to anyone when they announce completion of a nuclear weapon, despite any agreement they may have currently signed on to.

Iran is developing nuclear weapons and only the most naive diplomat in the United Nations (or the US State Department) will believe that they will honor any agreement that wuld actually effect their ability to do so. We can be sure that if Iran allows inspectors into known enrichment sites they have a) already completed at least one weapon, or b) they have at least one or more secret sites in which they can work unimpeded, even while UN inspectors are in the country.

Who has the most to fear from an Iran armed with a nuclear missile? Israel of course. It is doubtful that they could reach America's shores, but it would be fairly easy for Iran to strike Israel. America has to fear a nuclear weapon detonated by a terrorist group, or a missile fired from a regime with a more advanced delivery system, like North Korea, but it is Israel that would take the brunt of any attack from Iran.

The UN and the European countries currently dealing with Iran will dither on and on, and meanwhile the Mullah's will speed along with their own little Manhattan Project, building away while the world engages in diplomacy for diplomacy's sake.

NBC Complicity In American Deaths?

Hugh Hewitt is asking very tough questions (justifiably so) about NBC and their role in the war on terror, after one of their reporters, Kevin Sites, released a videotape to the world that showed a Marine killing an Iraqi. By now almost everyone has seen the video, but what the media has not, and will not, give you is the context of the incident. If you would like to know what really happened, read this.

The fact of the matter is that regardles of the intent of the reporter, his and NBC's negligence in releasing the video in a way that it could be used by Al-Jazeera and other arab media outlets to incite jihad is reckless and irresponsible, and will inevitably make fighting the war on terror more difficult.

This is what we should expect to see from today's media. They do not consider themselves o be on America's side in this war. How many times has Mr. Sites released pictures or videos of the many schools, hospitals, roads, etc... that the US military has built? How many pictures of Iraqis being aided by the Marines has Mr. Sites released? How many photos has Mr. Sites released showing the savage brutality of the terrorists? Did Mr. Sites bother to give timeline of events that lead to the Marine shooting the Iraqi? Has Mr. Sites seen or photographed dead and wounded terrorist bodies wired with explosives in order to kill Marines who try to aid them? Dis Mr. Sites tape or photograph the terrorists firing at Marines form the very mosque that the now famous videotape was filmed?

Even if Mr. Sites had photographed any of teh aforementioned items, it is unlikely that he would release the photographs, and if he did release them, it is certain that they would not be played on an endless loop by Al-Jazeera or NBC or any of the other networks who's primary goal it is to make the US military under the control of President Bush look as bad as possible. NBC knew full well that the video would be picked up by Arab media outlets, and they also knew full well the effect such a video, delivered without context or in a way to make the Marine look like a murderer, would have on the famous "Arab street" they are so fond of talking about. They knew, yet they chose to make the film public. Had the network or the reporter had the best interests of either the US military of the United States as a whole in mind they would have given the tape to the marines and let them take whatever action is necessary.

Don Rumsfeld should order that all embedded reporters be removed from Iraq. They have abused the trust of the US military and of the American people. NBC should apologize to the marines, to the public and most of all to the Marine that they have labeled a war criminal.

WMD Found In Fallujah?

This photo:

is from the USA Today slideshow of the battle of Fallujah. The photo shows 40 vials of suspected Sarin Gas, A WMD, found in a briefcae in Fallujah.

WIll this break through to the mainstream media? Probably not. They would much rather continue to try to denigrate the US military and hurt the war on terror by repeatedly showing a video, with no context, of a Marine shooting a terrorist. The fact that the terrorist may very well be funded by money grafted by Saddam Hussein, with the knowledge of the international body that was supposed to have Saddam "boxed in" does not seem to be of interest to Katie Couric, Dan Rather, the New York Times, Chris Matthews or any of the other media elite who still don't seem to be sure if we or the terrorists constitute the bad guys in this war.

The readers of Powerline have concluded that the picture is of a kit to test for chemical agents, not actually Sarin.

The Moral Bankruptcy of the Mainstream Media

Hugh Hewitt called his listeners attention to a statement made by Chris Matthews on Hardball two nights ago. Matthews was questioning a guest about the tape of a Marine shooting an wounded Iraqi when he made this incredible statement:

"Well, let me ask you about this. If this were the other side, and we were watching an enemy soldier --a rival, I mean they're not bad guys especially, just people who just disagree with us, they are in fact the insurgents, fighting us in their country-- if we saw one of them do what we saw our guy do to that guy, would we consider that worthy of a war crimes charge?"

"They're not bad guys especially, just people who disagree with us"? His statements are so absurd it is hard to even comment on them. These are the people who have slughtered hostages, killed women and children, murdered Americans, killed our soldiers. They are the same types of individuals who flew the planes on 9/11, yet Chris Matthews, a popular, respected figure amonst the media elite, believes they are not bad guys, they just disagree with us? Of course the rest of his statement is absurd as well. They are not "insurgents, fighting us in their country", we know that the majority of the terrorists we are killing are from countries other than Iraq. Chris Matthews is verging into Michael Moore land, believing that the terrorists are "freedom fighters and minutemen" who will win.

This is the level at which most in the mainstream media operate. If you believed that the terrorists we were killing by the thousands in Iraq were "not bad guys" and "just disagree" with us, you would be opposed to the war and the Commander in Chief leading the war as well.

His statement will not be surprising to most people who pay attention to the media. This type of thinking permeates TV news and the newspapers. The media elites push their warped morality in their article and on the airwaves, but the public is catching on and people like Chris Matthews have less and less influence with each passing day.

Nicholas Kristof: Insanity At The New York Times

Of course that's nothing new. The New York Times has become to the newspaper world what CBS is to the TV news world, a once trusted institution that sold its soul to liberalism. However, this op-ed by Nicholas Kristof is simply incoherent. He states exactly what I said liberals would say about Colin Powell, basically calls Sec. Rice a puppet and concludes by stating it might be a good time to move to New Zealand. Maybe he should, New Zealand may actually have a decent paper he could write for.

Mach 10?

Incredible, incredible technology...

War at the CIA

On the earlier post on A Time for Choosing, Porter Goss's intent to "clean house" at the CIA was discussed, though pnly a few stories had been written about it in the press at the time. Today there is suddenly a glut of stories, and most of them are quite in favor of Mr. Goss removing long time political bureaucrats from that organization, with brass kbuckles if necessary.

In The Weekly Standard, Stephen Hayes writes that the CIA is intent on fighting back, and appears to have done so with a series of leaks to particualr individuals in the media. These "journalists" are more than happy to write one sided article that make the administration look like the bad guys.

Michael Ledeen also weighs in on the issue in the USA Today, and he does not disguise his feelings aboput those who he says are "whining and leaking" as they leave.

The Rocky Mountain News also offers a terse evaluation of the bureaucracy and the need for reform. They cling to the fact that Senator John McCain has stated that the CIA is a "rogue bureaucracy" and "dysfunctional". Perhaps, but the fact of the matter is that if John McCain were to tell a member of the press that the sky was falling they would report it as fact.

Lastly, Investors Business Daily chimes in with a longer editorial that also supports widespread changes at the Agency.

The Central Intelligence Agency has the job of using human (as well as other types) intelligence to foresee problems and take care of them before they have the opportunity to become a threat to the United States. There are thousands of men and women working in the agency who take their kob very seriously and know the stakes of the war we are in. If there are senior employees who, over the course of decades in he same job, have allowed the politics of Washington DC to cloud their ability to perform their job, then they should leave, or if need be, forced out. The CIA is an elite organization, but it is important to remember that its employees are human and have the same weaknesses as anyone else. The difference is that the stakes of the game at the CIA are so much higher. There are no doubt many people at the top of the agency that have become jaded over the years. If so they should step aside for the good of the agency and the good of the country and allow a new generation of young, fresh energized professionals bring the agency back to the greatness it once had.

The Terrorists Brutality Revealed

The US Marines have discovered the unimaginable brutality inflicted on the residents of Fallujah by the terrorists:

Mutilated bodies dumped on Fallujah's bombed out streets today painted a harrowing picture of eight months of rebel rule.

As US and Iraqi troops mopped up the last vestiges of resistance in the city after a week of bombardment and fighting, residents who stayed on through last week's offensive were emerging and telling harrowing tales of the brutality they endured.

Flyposters still litter the walls bearing all manner of decrees from insurgent commanders, to be heeded on pain of death. Amid the rubble of the main shopping street, one decree bearing the insurgents' insignia - two Kalashnikovs propped together - and dated November 1 gives vendors three days to remove nine market stalls from outside the city's library or face execution.

The pretext given is that the rebels wanted to convert the building into a headquarters for the "Mujahidin Advisory Council" through which they ran the city.

Another poster in the ruins of the souk bears testament to the strict brand of Sunni Islam imposed by the council, fronted by hardline cleric Abdullah Junabi. The decree warns all women that they must cover up from head to toe outdoors, or face execution by the armed militants who controlled the streets.

Two female bodies found yesterday suggest such threats were far from idle. An Arab woman, in a violet nightdress, lay in a post-mortem embrace with a male corpse in the middle of the street. Both bodies had died from bullets to the head.

Just six metres away on the same street lay the decomposing corpse of a blonde-haired white woman, too disfigured for swift identification but presumed to be the body of one of the many foreign hostages kidnapped by the rebels.

This is the brutality that Jacques Chirac and his ilk turned their eyes from as their governments made illegal deals with the Saddam Hussein regime before the invasion. No, you say. The terrorists weren't there before the Americans came in! We caused the terrorism. If you believe that then you, too are willing to overlook the massive brutality imposed on the people of Iraq by the regime of Saddam Hussein.

Why France is Not an Ally

Jacques Chirac is not a friend or ally of the United States. His statements quoted in this Times of London article are incredible. His arrogance is sickening, and if any leader in teh world is an impediment to "healing" any trans-Atlantic wounds, it is Jacques Chirac. His stated goal is not cooperatin with the United States, but the creation of a European superpower to rival the United States. The only way to capture the flavor of Chiracs statements is to excerpt an extensive part of the Times article:

M Chirac, speaking to British journalists, including The Times, soon after General Powell’s announcement, revealed that he had urged Mr Blair to demand the relaunch of the Middle East peace process in return for backing the war.

“Well, Britain gave its support but I did not see anything in return. I’m not sure it is in the nature of our American friends at the moment to return favours systematically.”

In other remarks that will sting the Bush Administration, he again outlined his vision of a “multipolar” world in which a united Europe would be equal with the US, and mocked Donald Rumsfeld, the US Defence Secretary, for his division of Europe into old and new.

M Chirac said that there would be no division between Britain and France.

“It is like that nice guy in America — what’s his name again? — who spoke about ‘old Europe’. It has no sense. It’s a lack of culture to imagine that. Imagining that there can be division between the British and French vision of Europe is as absurd as imagining that we are building Europe against the United States.”

He continued:

M Chirac, whose visit to Britain concludes the Entente Cordiale anniversary celebrations, said: “I am not sure, with America as it is these days, that it would be easy for someone, even the British, to be an honest broker.”

Yes, we stupid, uncultured Americans who did not have the couth to make backdoor deals with a brutal dictator who routinley tortured women and children. We stupid, uncultured Americans who are so uncivilized that we cannot see the value in naming our streets after one of fathers of modern terror. We stupid, uncultured Americans who believe that Eastern European countries who suffered under decades of oppressive, communist regimes have shown a greater understanding of the need to remove brutal dictators and spread liberty than the mighty French, who have created a socialist utopia with the knowledge that they can count on the blood of American men to dig them out of any hole, no matter how deep.

The French government under Jacques Chirac is simply not an ally of the United States nor of any peoples struggling under brutal dictatorship and wanting freedom and liberty. The French are an ally of France, and of any country in Old Europe tht will bend to their will. President Bush has no reason to reach out to Jacques Chirac. France is currently making its own bed with its arrogance, and it should be allowed to lie in that bed when the time comes.

Condi Rice To Be the Next Secretary of State

Dr. Condaleeza Rice will replace Colin Powell as Secretary of State. In this previous post, I stated that Powell's replace ment would need to be someone brass knuckled enough to purge and reform the Department of State, like Porter Goss at the CIA and Don Rumsfeld at the Pentagon. Dr. Rice will fit that bill very nicely.

Colin Powell Resigns

Colin Powell has resigned his post as Sec. of State, which was expected. His resignation will become effective upon the administrations securing of his replacement.

Many conservatives will be relieved that Powell has resigned. There will be few tears shed by those on the right. Colin Powell is an honorable man who was put in charge of a State Department that has, in the past, seemed to put diplomacy before the interests of the United States.

The reaction by the Democrats and the left will be fun to watch. Volumes of words will be put in Colin Powell's mouth by the Democrats and the media looking for a way to damage the President. They will say his resignation was due to differences on Iraq, Iran, etc... There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth by those who will claim that with his resignation, the only, "moderate, reasonable voice" in the administration has left, allowing the evil "neocons" to further their radical agenda of imperialism more quickly. I predict that, if these sentiments have not already been expressed publicly, that they will be by tonight, and certainly in the opinion pages of the major papers tomorrow.

President Bush should pick a replacement dedicated to reform in the State Department. Don Rumsfeld has proven to be an effective reformer in the Pentagon, and the State Department certainly has the same needs. Refoprm will be very difficult, as many of the employees of the State Department are firmly entrenched, lifelong bureaucrats. It will take an outsider a will of steel to get the reforms off the ground.

I will leave the predictions to the professional pundits,as I am sure it will only be a matter of days before Powell's replacement is announced.

My prediction has already come true. This from the CBS News Marketwatch story on Powell's resignation:

Powell, whose resignation is not entirely a surprise, has been the moderate voice in an administration of hawks, including Vice President Dick Cheney and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

(Emphasis added) There will be so many stories like this, that it will pointless for me to try to link them all. The CBS News story also adds this bit of editorial at the end of the story:

Iraq has dominated Powell's attention during his nearly four years with the administration. He will perhaps be best remembered for his appearance before the U.N. Security Council on Feb. 5, 2003, during which he argued that Iraqi President Saddam Hussein must be removed from power because he possessed weapons of mass destruction.

There is no evidence that those claims had any foundation. Powell has maintained all along that the use of force by the United States-led coalition in Iraq was justified.

(Again, emphasis added) It would be accurate to state that no stockpiles of weapons were found after the invasion, but to say that Powell's claims had no "foundation" is absurd and misleading. Of course those two terms could be the new slogan for CBS News. This is why old media is irrelevent.

A "Purge" at the CIA?

Over the course of the last few years it has become apparent that there are employess at the CIA for whom partisanship has become a motivating factor in leaking to the press information that could be viewed as critical or damaging to the Bush Administration. In fact, the CIA authorized an employee to publish two books critical of the Bush Administration. The books were published under "Anonymous", because the author was still an employee of the agency. The athor has since been revealed to be Michael Scheuer, an analyst.

Yesterday in the New York Times, David Brooks wrote an op-ed on this very issue. An excerpt:

Over the past several months, as much of official Washington looked on wide-eyed and agog, many in the C.I.A. bureaucracy have waged an unabashed effort to undermine the current administration.

At the height of the campaign, C.I.A. officials, who are supposed to serve the president and stay out of politics and policy, served up leak after leak to discredit the president's Iraq policy. There were leaks of prewar intelligence estimates, leaks of interagency memos. In mid-September, somebody leaked a C.I.A. report predicting a gloomy or apocalyptic future for the region. Later that month, a senior C.I.A. official, Paul Pillar, reportedly made comments saying he had long felt the decision to go to war would heighten anti-American animosity in the Arab world.

White House officials concluded that they could no longer share important arguments and information with intelligence officials. They had to parse every syllable in internal e-mail. One White House official says it felt as if the C.I.A. had turned over its internal wastebaskets and fed every shred of paper to the press.

The White House-C.I.A. relationship became dysfunctional, and while the blame was certainly not all on one side, Langley was engaged in slow-motion, brazen insubordination, which violated all standards of honorable public service. It was also incredibly stupid, since C.I.A. officials were betting their agency on a Kerry victory.

As the presidential race heated up, the C.I.A. permitted an analyst - who, we now know, is Michael Scheuer - to publish anonymously a book called "Imperial Hubris," which criticized the Iraq war. Here was an official on the president's payroll publicly campaigning against his boss. As Scheuer told The Washington Post this week, "As long as the book was being used to bash the president, they [the C.I.A. honchos] gave me carte blanche to talk to the media."

As should be expected, the "slow-motion, brazen insubordination" has been noted by the White House. Newsday reported today that the President has ordered the new CIA chief, Porter Goss, to "purge" the agency of any employees who have proven to be disloyal to the President for partisan reasons, or who have leaked classified information to the media.

If this article is true, the public should be glad that the purge is happening. The employess of the CIA are charged with protecting the citizens of the United States. It seems fairly clear that if employees actions are guided by personal, partisan politics, they would not be able to perform their task as effectively as possible. In a time when the United States is confronting the possibility that a terrorist group could smuggle a nuclear weapon into the country for the purpose of destroying a city, there is no room for petty politics. If the Presdient deems that a purge is necessary to make the CIA a more effective agency, then purge he should. Leaks to the media could easily threaten the security of the country. It seems that some in the this country's leading intelligence agency have forgotten the old mantra, "Loose Lips Sink Ships".

Fallujah: "It Won't Be Long Now"

The battle of Fallujah continues with an unbelievably successful campaign by American and Iraqi military units. At least 1,200 insurgents are reported killed, with casualties on the American side blessedly light. Twenty Five Americans and 7 Iraqi soldiers have been killed in the fighting. Every life lost is a tragedy, however few would have predicted that the battle would have gone so well. It is a tribute to the men fighting on the streets in the insurgent stronghold.

The military believes that there are probably only about 400 insurgents left in the city, prompting one commander to state that, "It won't be long now".

Coin Toss Decides Winner In Florida Race

After two recounts in an election for city council, a Florida town was forced to decide the outcome with an old fashioned coin toss. The two men in the race agreed that it was fair. North Korea Eases On Nuclear Demands

After the reelection of President Bush, North Korea has announced that it is willing to return to six party talks, and that there is the opportunity to solve the nuclear stand off through negotiation, if the United States is willing to allow the communist regime to exist. Read: Kim Jong Il, leader of North Korea, and the bizarre little man that went into hiding after the US invaded Iraq, is scared to death. He is willing to give up his weapons as long as he has some guarantee that he will not end up in a spider hole before having his head checked for lice on international television.

The United States will reschedule the six party talks that were canceled by North Korea last September, as they decided to bide their time in hopes that John Kerry would be elected. John Kerry had promised to hold bilateral talks, which would have been to the advantage of North Korea. It was through bilateral talks with the United States that North Korea was able to negotiate the disastrous agreement with the Clinton administration in 1994. North Korea began cheating on that agreement before Madeleine Albright finished drinking champagne with Kim Jong Il. North Korea admitted in the fall of 2001 that they had developed nuclear weapons. The Bush administration understood that all countries in Northeast Asia should take part in negotiations with the country and refused to participate in bilateral talks of any sort.

With the reelection of President Bush, North Korea realizes that the United States is serious about defeating the "Axis of Evil", and that is what Kim Jong Il fears most. They had hoped that the American people would rebuke the President, and that a much friendlier Democratic Administration would again be in the white house, thus ensuring the survival of their regime for four more years. Now, Kim Jong Il has reason to doubt that he will be in power in four years if he doesn't negotiate, within the framework of the six party talks, with the United States.

The reelection of President Bush continues to reverberate with our enemies. They know they have a determined foe that means what he says. The leaders of North Korea fear George Bush, and it is that fear that may lead to a breakthrough in the negotiations.

The Tumor In The Democratic Party

In today's Rocky Mountain News, Francis Maier eloquently describes the tumor that has grown inside the Democratic Party and that left "32 state crater" in the last election. In his op-ed, Maier, who is the chancellor of the Archdiocese of Denver, focuses on abortion as the main culural problem for the party:

We can't build a just society while killing a million unborn children a year. No matter how much good we try to do, we can't outrun the effects of that most intimate form of violence against women and children.

Not so long ago, leading Democrats understood this. Robert P. Casey, governor of Pennsylvania from 1987 to 1995, embodied the deepest ideals of the Democratic Party: pro-worker; pro-minority; pro-economic and social justice; and also thoroughly pro-life, from conception to natural death. In arguing for the rights of the unborn child, he worried that the Democratic Party was becoming "little more than an auxiliary" of the abortion industry.

For his candor, the Clinton machine publicly humiliated him at the 1992 Democratic Convention. Other prominent "Catholic" Democrats - including fellow governor and media darling Mario Cuomo - looked the other way.

While it is true that the abortion issue is the cultural issue that began the decline of the Democratic Party in the United States, the cancer in the Party has been allowed to spread to other vital parts. If the abortion issue s the primary problem for the Democrats, they have, in the past few years, heaped other problems on top of it. The party is simply becoming more and more raical in it's worldview, and louder and louder in defending a platform that fewer and fewer people agree with. There would have been a time when the Democratic Party would have been able to see the corruption at the United Nations and the futility in repeatedly asking that body for permission to remove a dictator in violation of 17 of its resolutions and who our government deemed a threat. There was a time when fringe conspiracy theorists like Michael Moore would have been shunned by the Democratic Party, now however, the party honors him at their convention and several of the themes from his propaganda film actually appeared in stump speeches for the Democratic nominee for President. There was a time when a northeast liberal who voted for sending the troops to war but voted against funding them would have been castigated by mainstream Democrats for his hypocrisy, not held up as the torch bearer of the party. There was a time when leaders of the Democratic Party would have, out a sense of propriety and respect for the office of President if not for the man holding the position, never called the president a liar on the floor of the Senate. There was a time when, if elected members of their party had flown to meet with a brutal dictator and enemy of the United States just before an American invasion, Democrats would have demanded that those elecgted members of their party be sanctioned, at the very least. There was a time when members of the Democratic Party would never have thought about imposing what amounts to a religious litmus test for judges nominated by the President. There was a time when no one needed to try to defend the institution of marriage before the Democratic Party. There was a time when the Democratic Party fought for the little guy and fought for traditional values, now that party represents the elite on each coast who wish to dictate what Americans values should be, based on their world view. There was a time when all of this was true, but that time has passed.

The tumor that began as the willingness of the Democratic Party to sacrifice the unborn for votes has pread to all parts of the party, it is malignant, and it has spread to far in the party to be removed.

The Friday VDH Essay

Victor Davis Hanson, as eloquent as always, writes his Friday essay on the ironies that lay ahead:

The only difference in the American use of force has been one of magnitude: We lose 3,000 — not 9 — and send out 1,000 planes — not 3 — when attacked. Why does France get a pass in its postcolonial interventions? Simply because there are no French to criticize them. For all the European hysteria over the reelection of George Bush, I would wager that privately, leaders there are sighing with relief that a resolute U.S. is fighting the Islamists, taking the heat, and supplying them with both emotional and material cover at no cost. How can you buy off the Iranians to drop their bomb plans without fear by the mullahs that a cowboy George Bush is the dreaded alternative?

George Bush thus will get no credit for elections replacing the Taliban or for the liberation of women in Afghanistan, much less for democracy in Iraq. Instead he will be the target of constant venom for the human costs of war, with the silent proviso that he is not to cease, lest a Holland, France, or Spain become even more besieged by anti-Western jihadists emboldened by American appeasement. Indeed, Bush must endure elite European hatred, even as the majority there silently expects the United States to maintain the alliance and protect the West.

But perhaps the greatest paradox is here at home, where our world has been turned upside down. Much of what the media reported about the campaign was false — from suspicious exit polls and biased projections to forged documents. Grassroots populists got out the Republican vote; mercenary workers did less well for the Democrats. There was no new youth landside vote, much less a novel dynamic 18-to-24-year-old Kerry surge. The Hispanic vote was neither huge nor overwhelmingly Democratic. The Republicans were swamped by Democrat fat cats in raising outside 527 soft money, designed to circumvent liberal reformist law. Blogs, talk radio, and cable news were not only more influential, but often more intellectually honest than CBS, NPR, and the New York Times. The former represented blue-collar America, the latter the sophisticates of the Ivy League and East Coast. Such is our strange society in which democratic populism is now defined by pampered New York metropolitan columnists, billionaire heiresses, financial speculators, and a weird assortment of embittered novelists, bored rock stars, and out-of-touch Hollywood celebs.

He concludes:

At its richest, most populous stage in its history, the United States, after reeling from a devastating blow to its financial and military nerve centers, in less than three years toppled the Taliban and Saddam Hussein, implemented elections in Afghanistan and scheduled them in Iraq, prevented another 9/11-like attack — and so far has tragically lost about 1,100 in combat in a war against a virulent fascism that is antithetical to every aspect of Western liberty. Our grandfathers would have considered all this a miraculous military achievement. We call it a quagmire, deride our leaders as liars and traitors, and often doubted that our Marines — the greatest street-fighting besiegers in the history of warfare, who stormed Manila, Seoul, Hue, and Panama City — could take Fallujah last April.

George Bush is asked to win the war without losing Americans. He must defeat Islamists, but not kill too many jihadists on global television. His second term must deal with everything from jobs and globalization, energy dilemmas, fickle Europeans, and a war where winning is sometimes seen as losing. Entitlements are out of control, yet his critics don't want cuts, but rather further increases. In such a topsy-turvy world, all that will see him through are his iron will to stay firm and consistent in face of a global media barrage. He must smile more, keep far quieter, seem much nicer — and carry an even a bigger stick. God help him, because few others will.

More Liberal "Word Rage"

Prior to the election there were dozens of stories about violence directed at supporters of President Bush. Multiple Bush/Cheney campaign headquarters had shots fired through their windows, others were burglarized and vandalized. Nearly two dozen headquarters were “stormed” by Kerry supporters while campaign volunteers were present, which resulted in several minor injuries to elderly volunteers. All of this was above and beyond the normal campaign mischief like stealing yards signs.

The violence has not subsided since the election, if anything it has gotten worse. The Democratic party seems to have gone off the rails with the reelection of President Bush, and the hatred that was only three years ago relegated to the fringe of each party has now become mainstream in the Democratic party and the media elite.

The hatred of the President, which has now evolved into hatred of Republicans, began with the Florida election fiasco in 2000. Although Al Gore was the first to file a lawsuit, and although all subsequent recounts proved President Bush o be the winner, Democrats pushed the lie that the President stole the election or was “selected not elected”. The hatred stemming from the Florida recount was briefly interrupted by the grief of September 11th. For several weeks, the nation was united and even those who had voted against the president seemed to rally to his side after his fantastic show of leadership in the days after the attack. However, the feelings of good will quickly subsided. by the time the President made the decision to go into Afghanistan the hatred had made a comeback. The media began using the word “quagmire” a full two weeks before the invasion. the conspiracy theorists on the left questioned whether or not eh President knew about or even participated in the attack, paving the way for the invasion of Afghanistan and a pipeline that would somehow profit he and Dick Cheney. Antiwar groups, sometimes funded and organized by communist groups, used inflated numbers of civilian casualties to breed more hatred among those opposed to the invasion, and predisposed to hating President Bush.

By the time the discussion about Iraq rolled around, Bush hatred was at full tilt, and it was many times fanned by leaders of the Democratic Party. Millions took to the street to protest, claiming it was either a war for oil, a war for Israel (it’s the Jews!!), a war for Halliburton, a war for revenge for the President’s father and countless other ridiculous, inane ideas. The press immediately framed the war against Vietnam, using the phrase quagmire over and over no matter the situation on the ground. More inflated civilian casualty numbers and worst of all, no weapons of mass destruction. During the build up to the war the level of hateful rhetoric deemed acceptable gradually increased. Gradually the rhetoric that had previously been relegated to the fringe of the Democratic Party crept into the mainstream. Howard Dean suggested in an interview that it was possible that the President knew about 9/11 before it happened. Then in stepped Michael Moore with his propaganda film Fahrenheit 9/11. The movie, which made $100 million at the box office essentially made it okay for people, including politicians, to accuse the President and his administration of the worst possible crimes. Many leading Democrats attended the premier. Portions of the movie made it into Kerry stump speeches. The Democrats use of the Halliburton conspiracy to flame hatred for the President and the vice president became so common that it wasn’t deemed newsworthy. Al Gore spoke of “digital brownshirts”, George Soros openly compared the administration to the Nazi regime of Adolf Hitler. Ted Kennedy claimed the war was “cooked up” in Texas for political gain, he also regularly accused the President of lying to the American people. John Kerry, too, called the President a liar. He claimed in the debates that he had never actually used that word, but he had, a total of three times at that point in the campaign. The Democrats and their supporters on the left screamed that the administration was trampling on the constitution with the Patriot act. By the time the DNC rolled around, the lies were so prevalent and the party so out of control, that Michael Moore was given the honor of sitting in the Presidential suite with former President Jimmy Carter.

It should not surprise anyone that a certain percentage of a population, when convinced by the leaders of their party that the President and his administration sent young men and women to die to line their pockets, intentionally targeted civilians, lied to go to war, trampled the constitution, planned to reinstate the draft, do away with social security and overtime pay, suppress the black vote etc... will turn to violence, and that is exactly what has happened.

Since the election the rage that was directed at the President has been turned to all of his supporters. The naive, redneck, bible thumping redstaters who voted to put the President back in office now provoke the same fear and loathing from Democrats that was reserved for the President. The Democrats are raging. They are raging with acts of physical violence, with threats and with words. All the usual suspects have participated in the “word rage” including Maureen Dowd, Paul Krugman and EJ Dionne, but the volume of hatred and fear coming from the other side is almost unbelievable. From Garrison Keillor suggesting that the right to vote should be taken away from Christians (if it was supposed to be funny, it wasn’t), to serious democrats talking about seceding, to the New York Times printing an article about assassination to the disgusting Bill Maher running a thread on his website on the question of whether or not it is ethical to shoot Republicans. Part of that particular thread included the hopes of a reader that the all the members of the US military fighting in Iraq be beheaded because the military overwhelmingly supported the President.

The hatred seems to be reaching a crescendo, and their is a real fear among some that the hatred will manifest itself in more violence. Many believe at this point that it will be a miracle if no one loses their life.

The question is how did we get to this point? I would like to submit that there was no one defining moment that brought all of the hatred to the surface. It was incremental. Little by little all sense of propriety and decency were thrown out the window by the Democratic Party and members of the mainstream media in an attempt to bring down a president. No lie was too big or conspiracy theory to insane at the end of the campaign. The Democrats and the media were willing to incite hatred based on fear. A percentage of the population is now willing to act on that hatred. Had the Democrats turned away from the Michael Moores of their party, had John Kerry not opted to include conspiracy theories in every campaign speech. Had Ted Kennedy had the decency to not call the President a liar, had the party in anyway rebuked it’s fringe and not embraced it, much of the violence we have seen could have been avoided. Now we can only hope that tempers will settle and that the worst we will see is liberal “word rage

According to Drudge, the former agent Michael Scheuer, will state that Bin Laden has now recieved "religious approval" to use a nuclear weapon against America.

The religion of peace strikes again.

Arafat's Legacy

So the father of modern terrorism is dead. He will memorialized as a hero to many, but what of his victims? The thousands of people for which he was responsible for having killed? Not everyone has forgotten their names or the fact that Arafat was responsible for their deaths. A round up of articles with parts of Arafat's background that will not make it in most of his obituaries:

Andrew McCarthy: The Father of Modern Terrorism

Elinor Brecher: The PLO Killed My Cousin

Former US President and Current Moral Imbecile Eulogizes Arafat

Former President Jimmy Carter has emerged since his presidency to be one of the most foolish men in the world, and certainly the most foolish and naïve man to ever occupy the White House. His regular statements on foreign policy are always inane and have become increasingly anti-American as the years have gone by. In an earlier post I stated that the reaction of world leaders to Arafat’s death, a man who ordered the deaths of thousands of innocents and was the first terrorist to target Americans, is a window into their soul. It is true of Jimmy Carter as well. He released a statement through the Carter Center. An excerpt:

MIAMI (AFP) - Former US President Jimmy Carter called Yasser Arafat "a powerful human symbol and forceful advocate" who united Palestinians in their pursuit of a homeland.

"Yasser Arafat's death marks the end of an era and will no doubt be painfully felt by Palestinians throughout the Middle East and elsewhere in the world," Carter said.
"He was the father of the modern Palestinian nationalist movement. A powerful human symbol and forceful advocate, Palestinians united behind him in their pursuit of a homeland," he said in a statement distributed by his Atlanta, Georgia-based Carter Center.
He said that while Arafat provided "indispensable leadership to a revolutionary movement" and played a key role in forging a peace agreement with Israel in 1993, he was excluded from negotiations in recent years.
"My hope is that an emerging Palestinian leadership can benefit from Arafat's experiences, be welcomed to the peace process by (Israeli) Prime Minister (Ariel) Sharon and (US) President (George W.) Bush, and be successful in helping to forge a Palestinian state living in harmony with their Israeli neighbors," Carter said.
Both Carter and Arafat are Nobel peace prize laureates.

It says so much about Carter and even more about the Nobel foundation.

Arafat Dead

The long awaited day has finally arrived. The world's oldest terrorist has died. Easier Aright died last night at age 75 in a Paris hospital. Egypt has agreed to host the funeral. Reactions around the world are mixed, with each countries reaction acting like a window into the soul of the country's leadership. For instance, staunch US ally Australian Prime Minister John Howard, stated that history will judge Aright harshly, while Jacques Shirk called Aright, a man responsible for ordering the deaths of thousands of women and children, a "man of courage".

The White House released a very short statement of condolence for the Palestinian people. The statement also said the White House hopes the event will lead to peace.

With the President's reelection and the death of Aright there may be an opportunity for progress toward peace.

Powerline does a good job of filling in some of teh details of Arafat's life that the mainstream media will not include in his obituary. Read it here.

The Democrat's Violence Continues

Three John Kerry supporters beat a fellow student, who supported President Bush, with a baseball bat and a padlock.

(Via Powerline)

Powerline notes that not a single leader of the Democratic Party has condemned the violence by Democratic thugs during this campaign. That is true, but what should we expect from a party that turned to conspiracies as a campaign platform?

The trade gap narrowed unexpectedly in September on surging exports. This will likely lead to a revision of the third quater GDP. Good news.

Those Compassionate, Giving, Liberal, Blue Staters

The Catalog for Philanthropy has listed the most generous states in the United States. They are ranked by taking the states average income and annual charitable givings. Here is a game: keep scrolling down until you find a blue state!

Why would there be such a great divide? Maybe because red staters believe that personal charity should be the first choice in helping the needy, whereas blue staters believe the government should take everyone, from birth to death.

Secession or Assassination?

Anyone who has monitored the Democrats reaction to their overwhelming loss November 2nd has undoubtedly seen or heard the breathless, end of the world hysterics coming from that side. There have been several serious (presumably) articles written about the possibility of the blue states seceding from the red states. With this idea the Democratic Party has gone full circle, returning to its roots. This is the Party that bears responsibility for the first secession that of course led to the civil war. To the proponents of secession, the thought of living in the same country as a majority that has religious faith is simply unbearable. The idea of secession is not limited to fringe rags, it has gotten enough steam to be noticed by mainstream newspapers like the Washington Times (notice that the blue staters circulate a map that shows the blue states as the "United States of Canada" and the red states as "Jesusland". The idea has also been put forth by Lawrence O'Donnell, democratic operative and paid TV commentator who stated on MSNBC that the blue states should seriously consider removing themselves from the union over the next 20 years. Not to be outdone, however, is Garrison Keillor, who during his Prairie Home Companion monologue had this to say (thanks to Powerline):

We're over it. We've moved on. We're just fine. The election was days ago. Days ago. Much has happened since then. We've practically forgotten about it here [laughter] in our rush to enter into new activities, new frontiers, new projects. I am now the chairman of a national campaign to pass a constitutional amendment to take the right to vote away from born-again Christians. [enthusiastic audience applause] Just a little project of mine. My feeling is that born-again people are citizens of heaven, that is where there citizenship is, [laughter] is in heaven, it's not here among us in America. If you feel that war in the Middle East is simply prophecy fulfilled, if you believe that tribulation and suffering are just the natural conditions of life, if you believe that higher education is vanity, unnecessary, there is only one book that one need to read, if you feel that unemployment is -[glitch]- dependent on him and drawn you closer to him. [laughter] If you feel -[glitch]- lousy healthcare is a portal to paradise, [applause] then you don't really share our same interests, do you? No, you do not.

So there it is. Unfortunately I feel that these are the real sentiments of many on the left, that Christians should not have the right to vote. Yes it sounds insane, but the world has seen this type of thing before. I secession is not an option, or if it simply takes too long for the left to achieve, the New York Times has put forth a second solution, assassination. That's right, the Old Grey Lady, "America's paper of record", the New York Times ran an article on November 8th by Dean Murphy. In the article Mr. Murphy writes of the assassination of Lincoln and McKinley as the type of event that reshaped American politics when one party seemed to be down and out. He ends his column this way:

Professor Wilentz of Princeton said that even if the 2004 victory was an incremental one, that should not comfort the Democrats. He said Mr. Rove and Mr. Bush now have a chance to do what Hanna and McKinley never did: Lay the foundation for lasting Republican dominance.

"The Republicans are basically unchecked," Professor Wilentz said. "There is no check in the federal government and no check in the world. They have an unfettered playing field."

Until the next act of God, that is.

Upon reading the entire article, there is no way to interpret the closing paragraphs other than the author and the professor feel that the best thing that could happen for the Democratic Party and the country would be the assassination of the President. I challenge anyone to read the article and come to any other conclusion.

Tony Blankley, a DC pundit who always seems to keep a cool head when others around him are in hysterics, has observed the meltdown of the Democrats and has written an op-ed in today's Washing Times that assesses the seriousness of the situation and what it says about the Democrats. An excerpt:

It's not that the Democrats lost an election, obviously both parties have lost numerous elections. But never before in my memory — which goes back faintly to 1956 — has either party in its loss reacted with such venomous contempt for the American people.
When we conservatives got shellacked in 1964 — with Barry Goldwater losing 61percent to 39 percent to Lyndon Johnson — we knew we had a lot of work ahead if we were going to educate the public to our views. But I can honestly say that, although I remember thinking that the public was misguided in its judgment, I never hated or felt contemptuous of the majority electorate — of my fellow countrymen.
This dominant sentiment of the Democratic Party elite — that scores of millions of Americans are categorically unacceptable as fellow countrymen — is evidence of a cancer in the soul of that party. These Democrats, quite expressly, are asserting that "Christers," people who believe in the teachings of Jesus as described in the inerrant words of the Bible, are un-American, almost sub-human. Some of these Democrats would rather secede than stay in the same country with such people. If they were in the majority with no need to secede, what would they do? Their bigoted and absolutist view of religious people is at least a second cousin to the Nazi view of the Jews.
In Europe, the few remaining people of faith have recently taken to calling the increasingly more adamant European secularist majority "secular fundamentalists." While that phrase is unfair to the perfectly respectable fundamentalist religious sentiment, it shows how much more harsh and filled with fear the religious/secular divide is becoming.

Yep. The Democratic Party, at least most of its leaders, who hold influence over the masses are indeed infected with a cancer, a very dangerous cancer. The open talk of secession and assassination is not normal. The hatred that they feel toward people of faith is irrational. Mr. Blankley asks an appropriate question: If they feel this strongly toward Christians what would they do if they were the majority?

The Democratic Party needs to be torn down to the ground and rebuilt, purging the current leadership (all of them) and rebuilt in the mold of the original party. Until then, they will hopefully maintain permanent minority status.
